Run away with me.
Just you and me and Henry. To a place where good and evil don't matter; where heroes and villains don't exist. Where home isn't another world full of fairytales, but wherever we settle together. We can just be ourselves, without others watching, reminding us constantly of the dangers of the darkness. We can make our own rules, live our own lives, be not what others want us to be, but who we really are.
Storybrooke is suffocating me, but try as I might, I can't imagine a life with out Henry... or you. I know there's nothing tethering you to this town. No boyfriend, no family. So let's take our cars and run. Let's get out of this old-fashioned town of fairytales and labels. Let's quit waiting for a fairy godmother that's never coming and make our own happy ending. Together, we can make it. Neither of us have to be alone.
Regina had been surprised to find Emma at her door looking frazzled and tense. She led the woman to her study and offered her some cider. She knew Emma had been upset about Hook's cold feet situation, but that had been a month ago. Since then, they had had quite a few girl's nights that led to one sleeping off a hangover at the other's home. They were close, practically like sisters, or so Regina assumed, considering she wasn't this close with her own sister. So when Emma initially blurted out those four words, Regina was speechless. She stayed silent, listening to Emma plead with her about leaving Storybrooke.
Regina had seen how this town has changed Emma. Gone was the woman who cut that branch off her apple tree. Gone was the woman who would stand her ground, unflinching, even when they'd stand mere inches from each other. All that was left was the sacrificing savior, Snow and Charming's daughter, Storybrooke's princess and Henry's mother. She became what others wanted her to be.
To be honest, Regina missed the old Emma. She missed their heated arguments - the ones where she never knew if they would end with fists flying or a kiss. Of course, it was never the latter, but Regina had certainly fantasized about what she might do to the Savior if it led to that. Seeing Emma now, she could see the desperation in her lovely eyes.
Regina wasn't the kind of person for spontaneity. They'd need a place to stay, need to find jobs, and it was the middle of the school year. To pull Henry out of school so suddenly, away from his friends and family for an unknown future... Everything in her screamed this was a bad idea.
Run away with me. Those four words were loaded with so much more than just a need to run. Emma went to her, wanted to bring her along. The emotion sparkling in Emma's eyes was all the confession Regina needed. Regina pulled Emma close and kissed her softly.
"I will."
So it hadn't been what Emma had in mind, but she admitted, her running away idea hadn't been very thought out. She and Regina were in Boston, in a fancy hotel suite that had a huge bed and an amazing view. Henry was staying with his grandparents while his mothers looked for a place where the three of them could live - outside Storybrooke, but close enough for the occasional visit. At least, that was the plan for tomorrow morning. At the moment, all Emma and Regina wanted to do was figure themselves out. Their night was filled with cuddles and whispers and soft, feather-like touches. They admitted long-concealed feelings of admiration and, dare they say it, love.
No, it wasn't what Emma expected, but it was the first step towards their own happy ending.
A.N.: Someday I would like to write a sequel of sorts to this, but I want to to be longer and it would be a job for a real computer, rather than my phone.
