A/N:
Wow...I've never been on this side of a fanfic before. Hi! I'm new to fanfiction :D :D Been reading it forever, so I know half of you will probably scroll past, but if you're here with me...Well 'ello there, I'm Jay. I just got terribly inspired after I read Nightshade and just wanted to explore what we already knew via Ren. I thought he was a very interesting character, and I've tried to do him justice. WIP. EEEeeep!
I hope you enjoy!
In advance I apologize for my shocking grammar and or punctuation, really I'm terrible.
DISCLAIMER: in case you didn't catch it. I'm not Andrea Cremer, and I DO NOT own Nightshade.
Perhaps he had always known when it came to her: that fierce gleam in her predatory eyes, always challenging, that it was different with her, she wasn't just some conquest not another notch to be on his bed post she was...special.
Of course they were alphas, and the fact that they were betrothed probably helped. But he felt...things. Protectiveness and jealousness: things that when used in context to a girl in his favour, were non-existent. Some would argue it was just the alpha wolf in him that made him so. Maybe it was. But he still felt it.
There were other things he felt too, all normal for a hormonal adolescent, and he revelled when he made her feel things like that too. Then it became a game. He wanted to make her feel like how the thought of her made him, wanted to get under her skin like she had gotten under his, the only way he knew how. How he got every other young lady's skin, through her knickers.
So he suggested it. The packs hanging out, it seemed the perfect way to kill two birds with one stone get the pack mates his own and hers acquainted, so that when time for the union came they would be familiar with each other, both the leaders and the packs. Of course he had the ulterior motive of getting to know their fearsome leader Calla, a little bit better; if you know what I mean.
In the beginning his desire for her far outweighed his affections. So when the human boy, Shay, came along at the beginning he wasn't so fussed. Wooing her however, deemed itself a challenge.
Just like in everything else, she was a warrior, tough, and she proved herself: Lilly was not one to toy with. She was stubborn, headstrong, everything he would never go for, heck she even dressed like a boy, until her mother altered her wardrobe. But she was perfect. That's when he realised. That somewhere along the track, the teasing, the trying to out-do each other, that he had fallen for the alpha female, Calla Nightshade. Somehow, she had crept up on him, owning his heart, body and soul, and he didn't even realise it.
And the time when he realised the human boy, was a threat. As soon as he made these connections, he was drowning: in his affections, in his jealousy of something he wasn't even sure existed but they plagued his once egotistical dreams with doubt.
"What if...what if". They became his most hated phrase. So he vowed to try harder, to persuade her to trust him. To make her feel safe. To make her see that, yes, he was worthy of her.
But it was too late.
She'd already fallen. He tried in vain to bring her back to him, like a lifesaver would a drowning person, with kisses. In those moments she was his. But after those brief solitude moments they shared, she thought of him and him only, that kid, Shay.
His was a story of unrequited love, but he would die any day to keep her safe.
That is was love is. It had to be. Because that's all he knew. It was in his nature to be confident. But he doubted. He hated that he doubted, but he still loved her, with every breath even if she could never love him.
He loved her.
Oooooooo
