A/N: I don't really write poetry, in fact it's been years since I tried! But at 2am yesterday I just felt really inspired, "Golden Threads" really helped! I have no idea whether people are into this sort of thing, so let me know what you think! It's supposed to represent the Caskett journey.

Whole

There once was a girl whose heart was marred

By death and loss

She spent years hidden

Deep within her self-made castle

A seemingly never-ending maze

Of impenetrable walls

To prevent anyone from discovering

The fragments inside

Many had tried to reach her

Attacking the walls without thought

And ran back too soon

Pushed away by the dark

But along came a man

Armed with a map and glue

He approached the maze slowly

Mending and cleaning as he went

He was different

Cautious but determined

With a backpack of supplies

And a heart full of hope

He removed the cobwebs

Fixed the furniture

Cleared the windows

And the sunlight shone through

He took out from his bag

A beautiful sapphire bird

Setting it free to roam

And it's song filled the empty halls

He began to find pieces

Of her along his journey

And he cradled them carefully

As though they were glass

Slowly his collection grew larger

A beautiful rainbow of fragments

And piece by piece

He glued them together

He reached the centre of the maze

The pieces nearly all collected

But there was a gap

And the last piece too small

He searched high and low

In every nook and cranny he could reach

But nowhere could he find

The final piece

He sank to the ground

His hope ebbing away

The darkness invading

And sleep overtaking

Perhaps he wasn't so different

From the others who'd tried

And resting against the cold stone

He closed his eyes

Warm touches woke him

And he took in the view

Eyes like molten chocolate

But sometimes emeralds

Thick black lashes

Brunette curls

Hints of bronze and honey

Golden skin and pink lips

Wisps of hair framed her face

Worry lines interrupting the smooth slopes

Her hands outstretched

But tightly closed

Biting her lip

Her fingers unfurled

There cradled in her palm

A beautiful gem

It sparkled in the sunlight

Ruby red

Smooth edged

The perfect shape

She took his almost-complete creation

Gently with one hand

And in the heart-shaped hole

She placed the final piece

He began to place it in his bag

For safe-keeping

To protect it

From whatever had happened before

But she stopped him

With her hand over his

A silent request

And he understood

For together they had fixed it

But it wasn't designed for protection

But to be held by him

And displayed for all the world to see

So he cradled it in one hand

Determined never to let go

And she took the other

Guiding him the way he had come

The walls began to crumble

Bricks falling at their feet

But they carried on

As her castle collapsed around them

She didn't need it's walls anymore

No longer required it's protection

She had a new castle now

Full of magic, light and life

The sapphire bird joined them

Landing on her right shoulder

And she smiled

Soft but brighter than the sun

They reached the boundary

Between castle and outside

Her steps faltered

She hadn't left in so long

Outside was foreign

She had forgotten and was afraid

But he turned her to face him

And stared into her ever-changing eyes

"I love you, I'll never let you go"

For she'd shown him every part of her

And he'd examined every fragment

So what other outcome could there be?

Smiling, she crossed the threshold

Fuelled by his simple words

And entered the world again

Not in pieces but whole
