Author's Note: Takes place before the game. Spoilers. One shot. If I knew Japanese, I would make a pun with the word "Oni" which (according to Google Translate) means demon and 'Onii-San' which (still according to google translate) means older brother. But I know better than to trust Google translate, especially when involving puns.
Nephry ran towards the door. There was no school today, and the weather couldn't be better. The sun glistened off the freshly fallen snow of Keterburg, and six-year-old Nephry was ready to play with her favourite doll, Millie. She had woken up extra-early in anticipation for a full day of playing. She rushed out the door, her doll's arm clutched in her own. She felt her doll catch on something and stopped. An instant before she stopped, she hear a ripping sound. and turned around, not realizing that she still held the doll. The doll ripped further, and she saw what happened. The doll had got caught on the metal part of the door frame, and when she moved, the tension tore the old, used fabric, leaving the arm almost completely torn off. Nephry carefully unsnagged the arm and held in her hands. Tears welled up in her eyes and she started to cry. She had Millie for as long as she could remember, and now she had to wait for her parents to wake up to get another one. But even then, she knew it wouldn't be Millie. "Millie is... Millie is broken." she said and cried even more.
A shadow fell over her and Millie. She stopped crying and turned around. Her older brother Jade was there. She'd hear adults whisper when he was near. She didn't know what they said, but once, she thought she hear the words "his poor sister" once. She hadn't understood what they meant by it, so she didn't say anything. They called him names at school, but he said he didn't care. Jade sometimes did weird things, things she didn't want to know about. Jade stretched out his hand and said "Nephry, give her to me." She gave Millie to him and said, "What are you going to do?" His answer was one word: "Fomicry." She didn't know what that meant, so she just watched as her brother lay Millie on the ground and a fonic glyph appeared on the ground. There was a flash of light, and then there were two Millies lying in the snow, one broken, and one whole. Jade gently picked up the whole Millie and handed it to Nephry. She took it, smiling, and hugged her brother. "Thank you, Jade." she said. Her brother looked surprised. She just hugged him tighter. It didn't matter what the adults thought of him, or what the other children said or did, Jade was her brother, and she loved him like a sister should.

Mystearica was crying. Some of the other children were teasing her, saying that she didn't belong in Yulia City. That she and her brother Vandesdelca should leave. She didn't know what they meant, and she didn't know how to leave. Van found her on her bed. "Don't cry." he said. "Remember Yulia's teachings? Her promise for us?" Mystearica, or Tear as most knew her, stopped crying and nodded. Vandesdelca started to sing. "Rei, va, neu, kro, tu, rei, rei." He lay her down on her bed and asked "Do you know what that means?" Tear shook her head. "I will teach you when you're older." said Van and he continued singing. As Tear fell asleep, she thought about how lucky she was that she had a brother, and that her brother loved her.
Author's Note: I didn't really know how to make Tear's part any longer. My original intention was that both of the parts would be relatively the same length.
Sorry for any OOC, and no, it's not supposed to be just like the anime.
