A Dragon's Eye
" Shit."
Date cursed. Cold sweat ran down his body as he breathed heavily. It's been too long since he had a nightmare. Too long. He gave another curse as he heard soft padded footsteps coming down the hallway.
The wooden door slide open, revealing the worried face of his most loyal retainers.
" Masamune-sama? What happened?"
" Nothing. Get out." Date hissed.
He stayed there, eying the Lord of Oushuu carefully.
" Didn't you hear me, Kojuurou? I said, get out." Date repeated. " Or are you disobeying my orders now?"
" Forgive me, Masamune-sama. But I will not be leaving." Kojuurou replied, respectfully yet firmly.
" Leave, Kojuurou." Date gritted.
" How can I leave, knowing that my Lord is in distress?" Kojuurou questioned.
He stepped into the room, closing the sliding door behind him. He sat down near the door, observing the other in silent. Date muttered another curse. Of course Kojuurou won't leave – not willingly, at least.
Kojuurou was, after all, the Right Eye of the Dragon, loyal retainer of Date Mamasume, Dokuganryuu and Lord of Oushuu.
The two sat in complete silence. Kojuurou knew his Lord well enough not to press him, or he'll hide deeper into his scales (so to speak). Date knew himself well enough not to speak or he's afraid that he'll break down.
And after a long while, Kojuurou finally gathered his courage and did something unexpected.
The Right Eye of the Dragon got up and gave his master a gentle hug.
Date's lone eye snapped open and widened as he felt himself being hugged from behind.
" Ko-Kojuurou…?" Date questioned.
The retainer said nothing and maintained the stance.
" Damn you, Kojuurou…" Date growled lowly. " Why do you always know what to do at the right time…?"
" Because, Masamune-sama…" Kojuurou spoke, still not releasing the hug. " How would I be able to watch over you all this time, if I don't know what to do?"
" Heh. That's true." Date chuckled.
" Masamune-sama…" Kojuurou whispered. " A dragon is a creature which constantly fights in order to survive. However, even the strongest dragon will get hurt at times."
" But dragons have appearances to keep. That's why… a dragon only shed its tears in the dark, Kojuurou." Date murmured.
And finally, the tears did fall; though Date had did his best to keep it back. Kojuurou said nothing as he held his master quietly.
" Oi, Kojuurou…" Date called.
" Yes, Masamune-sama?" Kojuurou questioned.
" Don't ever leave me, got it?" Date gritted.
" Of course, Masamune-sama." Kojuurou replied. " I am the Right Eye of the Dragon, am I not? And no dragon leaves without its eye."
Date chuckled as he leaned into the embrace. " Correct."
A/N: My second attempt at ikebukurolove's birthday gift, and first attempt at the SB fandom (after much prodding from said birthday girl). Sorry for the OoC-ness and once again, Happy Birthday, ikebukurolove~! (tackle-hugs)
