Disclaimer: I don't own RB in any way, shape, or form.

Rated T, just because.

A/N: Title's a little random, but I kinda like it (;. It even sort of rhymes, lol!

Anyways, had to write this because I felt so sad for Dov :(. Because everyone was pairing off (even if I didn't like the way things ended all Andy/Luke and Traci/Dex) and he got left in the dust.

Just another quickie; I hope you enjoy!

Dov Epstein. Set after 'Takedown'.

"You gonna be okay?" Andy asks as she slings her bag over her shoulder, turning to look at Dov; she had, of course, heard about Edie from at least three different people at the station, including Traci. "I know how much you cared about her."

"Yeah," he says lightly, turning and sending her a small (and fake) smile. "There are plenty of fish in the sea, right?" he chuckled.

"Definitely," Andy says back, pretending not to see the pain in his eyes. "I'll see you tomorrow, then."

"Yeah, see you." She walks off to the front door where Luke is waiting, turning to wave to Dov as he slips an arm around her shoulders and leads her out to the parking lot.

He cringes almost unnoticeable. All around him are happy couples; Shaw on the phone with his wife as he packs up his things, Gail with Chris at the hospital, Traci going home to her son and his father, Andy and Luke … going off to do whatever it is they're doing, which probably involves picking out furniture or paint for their new house. Everyone's all smiles, with happy little families either established or in the making, and nothing but bright futures ahead of them to look forward to with someone at their side. And then there's him, his only family being the one at the station that he's forced to leave behind every time he takes off his uniform; not that the brotherhood isn't a great family …

But even though Edie's a stripper and he hasn't known her than long, when he was with her he got a taste of something that he's been missing for most of life. (Hustled between his mom and dad for his entire childhood, he never had one set home or a set group of people in his life; not up until he met Chris, Andy and Traci.)

And he found that he liked it, a lot.

But now that's gone, slipped right through his fingers like sand in an hourglass, and he's going home to an empty apartment (even if it usually isn't empty; but Chris is a little busy right now, with being stabbed and in the hospital and all) … and he just really wishes that he had trusted Edie.

Because maybe he wasn't wrong in what he did, but it wasn't right either, even if he was just doing his job. If he hadn't jumped to the conclusion right away, at least he'd have had more time to convince her that they weren't destined straight for failure from the very beginning; because they weren't. They had as much of a chance as anyone else.

But she's gone, and he's alone, and he's certainly not as okay as he tried to lead Andy to believe.
