I opened my eyes one dull dreary morning and noticed something strange in the damp air. I sensed a scent that was a combination of burnt chocolate and smoke. I rolled my eyes over to the calendar hanging on the wall of my smallish room and realized that the day after the last Xed-out date was September 10- my birthday. Great, so the family tried to bake a cake, I thought, gee, did they throw a party too? Ugh. I hate birthdays. It's mostly because my whole family goes to all the trouble of trying to make my birthday "extra special" by baking cakes and buying me useless crap that I don't need. I mean I love them, but they can go a little over the top sometimes. Just because I'm the only one in the family who can (and will) eat human food and not just blood, they want me to "experience" human food for some reason. Maybe I'll just stay in bed all day, and maybe they won't know that I'm gone. I thought to my self. I figured they would eventually look at the time (but rarely because when you're a vampire, you have all the time in the world) and discover I wasn't up yet. So I rolled out of bed, got dressed and just finished tying my shoes when my mom walked in and said," Good morning Sleepy Head, I was just coming to wake you up. Well, if you want to come with me to the house we can start!" "Start what?" I asked. "Oh right. Well it's your birthday surprise party Alice planned, guess it really isn't a surprise anymore. Cake and everything. Why don't you just act surprised when I bring you in. Alice will kill me if she finds out I told you. And trust me, I hate birthdays too."

As we set off to the house, I realized, I didn't feel any different than the day before. Today of all days, I had stopped. FINALLY! My days of rapid growth were coming to an end. My life as a full-grown half-vampire had just begun. "Whoo!" I shouted. "Did you say something?" My mom asked. "Oh uh…no" I answered. When we arrived at the house, I looked around and all of my family was their: My two vampire grandparents, Carlisle and Esme, my two uncles, Emmett and Jasper, my two aunts, Alice and Rosalie, my father, Edward, my best friend and the werewolf who imprinted on me, Jacob, his friend, Seth, and my human grandfather, Charlie Swan. They all simultaneously said, "Happy Birthday Nessie," and we all proceeded through with the party. But surprisingly, there wasn't a table full of gifts like at all the other birthday parties I'd been to. Instead, there was an envelope on the table beside the cake. Before I opened it, Emmett leaned in real close and when I took out the key ring he yelled real loud, "SURPRISE!!! Nessie Cullen come on down, to see your brand new Lamborghini Murcielago!!!!!" "Aw, thanks guys, you really didn't have to get me a car! Even though I appear to be 16, gotten my license, and I've been dropping hints for five months, you really didn't have to extend the garage and buy me this!" "Well you gotta get somewhere on your own once I a while, and when you do, you won't have to worry about wrecking someone else's," Emmett smartly stated. After all human and were-wolf guests had left, Alice announced, "Alright, who wants to get a drink in honor of this special occasion?"
