Late Tuesday Night, Penny gets home from her double shift at the Cheesecake Factory. On autopilot she heads over to the community mailbox and inserts her key. Out comes a small stack of envelopes which she immediate shuffles through. Bill, bill, flyer, bill, credit card offer---and then, a plain envelope addressed to her, no return address, no indicator of where it came from. She sits down on the stairs of the complex, perplexed by the mystery message. Penny tears in and pulls out a hand written note.

Hey Penny!

It's Leonard. We had some down time and I thought I would write you to let you know how our trip is going. Actually, we have a lot of down time. It kind of sucks. We weren't even here a full day and Howard already started building a crossbow to use on Sheldon. I'm sure you would approve.

The trip is so impressive. If all the research goes according to plan, we will prove String Theory!! It will be the greatest contribution to physics in the past 100 years. Still, it's hard being here. There are so many things that I miss back home. I miss the heat. God, do I miss the heat. Winter blows. I will happily go the rest of my life without seeing snow. You lived in Nebraska; how the hell did you do it?

I miss real food. For the past few weeks we've been living off of reconstituted Thai, Chinese, Indian and generic American food. You think Sheldon is particular about his food back home, you can't even begin to imagine what he's like with this crap! I miss being able to escape Sheldon.

But more than anything else, I miss you. I can't wait to get back home. Things just aren't the same without you around.

See you in a couple of months.

Leonard Hofstadter

Penny sat on the steps, eyes welling up with tears. These next couple of months were going to take forever.
