Short. Very short. Fluffy feels-inducing oneshot for Tale of Two Towns.
Disclaimer: Not mine. It all belongs to Natsume, except for plot and the hat!
Also, her name is Lenna. I realize her official name (seems to be) Lillian, but I like naming her Lenna because EFF YOU.
It had been about two weeks since the flash typhoon that Bluebell had, and the weather had turned back to that sticky hot mess that is the summer. That day seemed to be particularly hot, and after getting through her chores, Lenna could hardly wait to just plop down into the river.
After watching her dog take out the last cow into the pen, she gave him a nice cool bowl of water and a treat before heading inside and grabbing her bag. Peeking inside, she smiled and made note of it before she finally walked towards the river.
As she walked past the entrance to the town, she saw flashes of warm colors that were from Jessica and Ash; it was a Wednesday, so they were closed for the day. Judging by the way he was walking, she assumed that he was being dragged to Howards for some ice cream by Cheryl.
She sighed and headed up to the stream, realizing that Cam was working today. Instead of lamenting the loss of spending a little time with him, she got straight to work. After she dipped her feet in the cool water, she pulled out her project. It was a knit hat that she was going to give to Cam, to replace the one he had lost in the typhoon. She was almost done with it too.
Pulling out her needles, she began to knit away, humming softly and wishing that he would like and appreciate the gesture.
"Yawn…" Lenna rubbed her eyes and sat up. When had she fallen asleep? Gasping, she sat up and stared at her feet. Nothing. They weren't even wet. She looked around and noticed that she wasn't at the riverbank anymore, and that it was getting dark out. Beside her was a familiar face.
"Cam?" She gently shook the boy awake, seeing his pretty emerald eyes flutter open.
"Oh… Hey Lenna…" He stretched and rubbed his eyes, making the girl squeal a little. He was just so damn adorable when he's waking up, like a little boy!
"You could have woken me up earlier…" She muttered, letting him sit up properly. He looked down at her and just smiled kindly.
"I could have… But you were kinda cute like that, I just couldn't bring myself to do it." He chuckled at the way her face turned a dark red. Looking up at him, she gasped softly.
"That hat!" He took it off and smiled affectionately.
"It was done when I came out here after work. When I was going to wake you up, you sleep talked and said it was for me. So I moved you and put the hat on." He then plopped the hat onto Lenna's head, making sure that it didn't fall before he stood up.
"Cmon. I'm sure Howard's going to be worried if we stay out too much longer."
"Ah! My livestock!" Lenna hurriedly put on her socks and boots and as she was heading up the little incline, something stopped her. Looking back, Cam had gripped her wrist. He pulled her close and kissed her forehead as he removed his new hat.
"Thank you for the gift Lenna." She placed her hand over the spot before nodding and turning.
"You're welcome, Cam."
