The young man sat on the stairs outside of the library. He was smoking and staring at the skyline; he didn't look up when the girl sat next to him.

"You know I hate it when you smoke. It's bad for you."

"I know," he said, putting the cigarette out on the concrete. "That's why I do it when you're not around." She sighed, and he smirked and placed a hand on her head. "Why is your hair always so soft?"

She blushed and turned away but didn't remove his stroking hand. "I like it that way."

"I like it that way too," he said, standing up and stretching.

"Sasuke," she said suddenly. He turned and faced her, an eyebrow quirked. "Why me?"

His eyes softened for a moment but the smug grin was back in a flash. "Why not? You're better than all the rest." He turned and started walking down the stairs but was pulled back by the collar of his shirt.

The girl turned him around to face her; they were eye to eye even though he was two steps below her. "Can't you be serious for a moment?" she asked, searching his face.

He saw the look in her eyes and lost his grin. "Hinata," he said softly, "What's wrong?"

"Those other girls," she began slowly, "They're so much prettier... They would give you anything you wanted. Why would someone like you settle for someone like me?"

He placed a hand on her cheek. "I told you, you're better than all the rest." She placed a hand over his but looked away. He turned her so that she would face him. "Hinata... I-- I love you. And nobody else." She stared at him, mouth slightly open in surprise and confusion.

He pulled her face to his, smashing them together, and kissed her. The coldness of his face startled her, and when she kissed back, she startled him.

When they broke apart she buried her face in his shoulder. "I love you, too," she mumbled into his shirt, and he shook with laughter.

"Good."

She pushed a lock of hair away from his face. "You should stop smoking. The smoke doesn't taste very good."

He smirked and whispered in her ear, "But you taste so good." She blushed, but pulled on his collar until their lips met again.
