Celebrate
Just a little one-shot. Hope you all enjoy and Happy Holidays to everyone!
Face sighed deeply as he marked yet another day off the calender. He really didn't like this time of year. He didn't mind Christmas really, it was the time in between he hated.
The time when the last holiday of the year was over, and another year of being wanted men ready to begin.
He sighed again as he threw himself on the couch in a huff and watched Murdock dance around the christmas tree with B.A chasing him.
"What's the matter kid?" Hannibal asked as he sat down next to his lieutenant.
"Nothing, Hannibal. I'm fine."
Hannibal expected the usual answer. Every year Face got more and more depressed as it got closer to Christmas. He knew the kid had a rough childhood but this was getting ridiculous.
"Out with it Face. You do this every year. Do you hate Christmas that much?"
Face was quiet a minute and Hannibal was about to repeat the question when the younger man suddenly turned to him.
"You ever get tired Hannibal?"
The question took Haninbal off guard. He fumbled for a cigar until one appeared in front of him.
"Thanks kid."
Face handed over the lighter and waited patiently for Hannibal to light it.
Hannibal took a few drags from it and answered Face's question.
"Sure Face, everyone gets tired. What's goin on?"
Face shook his head in frustration.
"No I mean tired of all this." He said waving his hands in the air. "You know, running all year from the military, then actually celebrate new years when we are about to do it all over again? I mean is that really something to celebrate?"
The room got silent and all eyes were on Face.
"It sure as hell is." Hannibal said a little angrily.
"What?" Face said, feeling a little put-out.
"Things could be a lot worse, ya know."
"Oh really? I don't see how."
"For starters, we could have never left that hell-hole Viet-Nam. As I recall we lost quite a few friends there. We could be in prison or out on our own wondering how the rest of the team was and what was going on. But we aren't. We're here, together, and safe. I think that's something to celebrate."
"Couldn't have said it better myself colonel." Murdock said.
"Yeah man. I'm tired'a seein ya mopin around. Ain't right. We supposed to be havin a good time. You bringing everybody down."
Face bowed his head in shame.
"I'm sorry guys, I wasn't thinking. You're right. Things could be so much worse."
Face's smile lit up the room and Murdock drug him off the couch.
"Come on Face, we gotta clear the chimney for Santa!"
"Ain't no such thing as Santa fool!" B.A yelled following them over to the chimney.
Hannibal sat back and listened to his team argue. To be honest he was tired. He wondered how much longer they all could keep this up. These crazy missions, and running from the mp's. Sooner or later it was all going to end and then what? He shook his head. That didn't matter. What mattered was now. And right now he needed to get B.A's hands from around Murdock and Face's throats.
-The End-
