I was on duty from 9 to 4 in the morning, and it was my job to make sure no kids tried to deal drugs while in the deserted subway station. It was all over the news about several other subway stations having stupid kids deal cocaine, but it wasn't going to happen on my shift. I sat in the small booth that I sold tickets through, and watched the 10:00 news. Most of the stories were just about who was winning in The Senate Election. It seemed that Cariun was winning by 267 votes, and Katchew was in second with 253. Most of the time the news was wasted on election crap, but tonight there was a 'breaking news' story now being aired. To what the news anchor said, a girl of about 16 had stolen $285 dollars at a local gas station; she was not armed, but dangerous none the less. The news showed a picture of the young girl that was caught on one of the video cameras in the gas station. As I was standing watch at the subway station, a strange girl approached me. She had very blonde hair and dark green eyes. The girl was about 5 foot 6, and wore a long overcoat over what looked to be a pair of blue jeans and a purple tank top. She had long hoop earrings in each ear, and had a small necklace with a gold cross at the end of it.
"Sir, I wanted to ask when the next train leaves. Oh, and how much will the fare be?"
"The next terminal leaves in about 6 minutes. It's on its way to pick up at this stop. It'll be $8.35 for the fare," I answered nonchalantly. The news channel flashed the picture of the girl again. Blonde hair, overcoat, hoop earrings. THIS WAS THE THIEF!
She saw the look on my face and bolted. She got quite a head start, and with my belly, it would take quite a lot to catch up to her. We both ran through the long station, me a little behind. She tripped and fell over a small box, and that gave me time to catch up to her. The thief got back on her feet, and ran to a corner of the station. I got there as soon as she turned the edge, to see.. nothing?
The girl had simply vanished, gone into thin air. But for some odd reason I could still hear her panting breath. She was still here, but where? The door leading out of the station opened and closed. She was suddenly gone, but still here? So she was invisible or something, great trait for a thief to have. And with that last thought, my eyes closed, and I passed out from the sheer fright of what I had just seen, or in her case, not seen.
