"I Will Love You Always"
As Nani watched Lilo sleep that night, she thought back on the days events and how she had almost lost her forever.
As she combed a hand through her sister's jet-black hair, she shuddered at the thought of possibly losing the only member of her Ohana she had left.
As the memories floated back to her, she laid down next to her sister and put a protective arm around her…
Nani glared at the man in front of her. For all her talk about what was best, she knew deep down in her heart that separating herself from Lilo wasn't the best thing for her at all. She also had a feeling that her parents would agree.
"No! You're not taking her!"
"You know I have no choice." He said calmly.
"You don't know what you're doing. I'm the only one who understand hers. You take that away, she won't stand a chance. She needs me."
"It's clear to me that you need her more she needs you."
Too engaged in their argument, they didn't realize that Lilo had made a run for it.
Nani should have known better than to expect her little sister to take this sitting down.
As Nani ran after her a few minutes later, she prayed she would get to her in time. There was no way she was losing her now. She had fought the verbal fight to keep her with her. Now it was time to put it into action…
As Nani lay there, half cradling her little sister, she started thinking back to the night she had held her while sitting in the hammock. She hadn't wanted to let go, even though a part of her knew she would have to.
She loved that little girl so much; the thought of not seeing her again brought a physical ache to her heart.
Just then, Nani's thoughts were interrupted by Lilo.
The little girl stirred in her sleep, but didn't awaken. She rolled over and buried her face in the crook of Nani's right arm as though knowing her older sister was there with her.
Nani smiled, despite herself. As much as Lilo got on her nerves, she was Ohana and Nani wouldn't have it any other way.
"I love you, Lilo" Nani whispered as she planted a kiss on her head. "Sweet dreams." With that, Nani closed her own eyes and prepared for sleep as well. There was no way she was moving from her current spot. Lilo was safe in her arms and that was enough for the eldest Pelakai sister for the moment.
