A/N: So I was shocked by the lack of Mr Selfridge fanfics so I decided to write one of my own. Now, I usually deal with Downton abbey so I'm rusty on this topic. Oh, and BTW I know Rose technically kinda cheated on Harry as well but she never stopped saying that she loved her husband to Roddy so this is just how I imagine she would feel after Ellen Love came to her and admitted to the affair. Please read and review, Enjoy! xxx
disclaimer: I own no characters or anything. :'(
As her husband's lover left the room with Frasier, emotions flooded Rosalie's head and heart so fast that they knocked the breath from her lungs. She clutched her chest as if willing her heart to beat again. But it wouldn't. Would it? He did it again. AGAIN. Of course she knew from the moment she saw them together. A woman, a wife, always knows. And Rosalie had a lot of practice in spotting out her husband's lovers anyway. But she didn't accept it yet or say it out loud for fear of it becoming true if it hadn't already. That was, until she came into her home. Their home. And confirm her fears of an unfaithful husband. He did it again, taken another lover, another stab at her heart that had beat so faultlessly for him and only him since the day they were wedded. That still does.
She was sick of being led on, betrayed and taken for granted by him. Tired of being forgotten. A heart can only be broken by the same man so many times before it doesn't have the strength or will to repair itself anymore. Because Harry didn't just break a heart the old-fashioned way. Oh no! He would always do things with an extra flair! He tore a heart sideways and ripped it diagonally over and over.
But she had been strong. She looked Miss Love in the eye and spoke with an un-breaking and even voice while telling her what's what. It didn't matter if she cried after as long as it wasn't in front of Harry and it wasn't in front of his chorus girl.
Not soon after that Louis walked in, sat down next to Rose and took her hand in hers. Rose looked at their intertwined fingers and broke down. So she turned into her mother in law's shoulder while Louis consoled her. Her hand running up and down her back soothingly. She wanted to be there for Rose. The poor girl had no-one apart from the kids she could talk to. She left everything, her family, her home, to come to this godforsaken island for Harry. Right then, Louis was the only mother she had. After a while, Rose sat up and wiped away her tears.
"Did you know?" She asked her mother in law.
"I had my suspicions, but I never thought she would come to our home and tell you face to face." Rosalie just nodded absently in response and stood up while turning away from Louis so back was to her.
"Will you confront him?" Louis asked when Rose didn't attempt to speak again. She was more concerned for her daughter in law than curious about a rocky marriage at that moment.
Rose shook her head in reply. "No, I never do. I find the best thing to do in these situations is to ignore it."
"Surely you don't mean that my girl. I just don't want you to lock up and contain your emotions only to let them explode in public. Or worse. In front of the kids."
Rose didn't reply but just stared into space blankly, lost in her thoughts. Lost in the pain of a broken heart. Lost in her love.
"You know, no-one ever told me marriage, or even love, was going to be easy. But I never once thought that it would be this hard!"
At the end of this Rose turned and face Louis with fresh tears in her eyes. Then she ran out of the room grabbing her stomach as if she felt sick. Knowing that soon Ellen Love would just be another one of Harry's old lovers and another faded (but no less painful) scar on her torn heart.
