A/N: This is just little something that came to mind and wouldn't leave me alone before I got it written. I am so waiting for the second season :)

It was a Friday night and the newsroom was both dark and empty. The staff had scattered off quickly after broadcast like every Friday, each of them anxious to get to their weekend plans. Everyone except Will and Mackenzie who were sitting in Will's office, trying to sort out the coming weeks. Jim had announced that he wanted to cover the Romney campaign and it caused some changes for their routine in the office.

They were both sitting on the floor with all their papers and some takeout cartons lying around them. Will was leaning against his desk, his long legs in front of him, one over the other. Mackenzie was opposite of him, sitting on her legs. They had just come to conclusion about something and Will was eyeing the next papers when Mackenzie cleared her throat.

"Can I ask you something?" she asked a bit timidly though Will didn't really notice her tone of voice.

"Sure" he said, without raising his eyes from the papers in his hands.

"Would you really have preferred that I hadn't told you?"

He frowned at the question before it really dawned on him what she was on about. He raised his eyes from the papers and looked straight into her eyes.

"Yes."

"And when it had eventually come out? And you know it would have, cause it always does… Would it had been better that way?"

"Yes."

"Why?" She needed to know. She needed to understand why it was that they weren't together.

"Because by then we would've been married and so in love that it would take something in the size of a nuclear war to take us apart. Because by then I would've been happy with you and had the life I wanted for so many years that the beginning didn't matter anymore. Because instead of being apart for the last four years we would've been together and we would've been great the whole time, personally and professionally" he ranted, almost out of breath. Will leaned his head back against the table and briefly closed his eyes before continuing.

"Because I would be sitting here, right now, looking at you and seeing the love of my life instead of the woman who made me unable to trust anyone."

"We would've been married?" she asked, her voice slightly broken.

"Two years now. Maybe three" he said and somehow he felt his heart break a little more.

There were tears in her eyes as she nodded.

"I wish I hadn't told you."

"Yeah."
