Episode 44____Goliath

[Narration]

I stood among a river of shattered glass and pieces of cracked wood on the backyard porch. My hands gripped Cassidy tightly. As I held him up in the air by his neck, thoughts of Amanda, the Tragers, and Jessi raced through my mind. What would they think of me if they found out about this sudden explosion of violence from me? Cassidy coughed and groaned as I tightened my grip. When he began to speak, he struggled to utter his words.

"You wouldn't do it..." he wheezed. His eyes began to tear up as I clenched his neck even tighter.

"What makes you so sure?" I snapped.

The look in his eyes... That's what got to me the most. Cassidy knew that he could find some way to get me to let him go.

"Because, Grace Kingsley... My mother..." he gasped in between words again; his face turned a dark red.

"What about her?" the blind rage in me forced me to choke him even harder. I didn't expect what he was going to say next.

"She's your mother too... I-I'm your brother..." a desperate smirk stretched across his face. He lied to me this whole time; why would he start telling the truth now? Cassidy captured Amanda just to get my attention, and I knew he'd try absolutely anything to have his livelihood spared. "You wouldn't kill your own brother, would you?"

His life was literally in my hands. The power I had over him scared him... I could tell. The truth is, I could never bear being responsible for taking a life. I had to release him. The blood on my hands wouldn't ever wash away if I didn't. My hands became numb. They involuntarily loosened up and Cassidy dropped to the ground.

Immediately when he hit the floor, the frighteningly loud gasps began. He looked up at me with the most perplexing stare. I didn't know what to make of it.

"What do you want from me?" I asked desperately.

"I-I want you to join me, at Latnok. If you had just cooperated at the beginning, everything would've been fine. I wouldn't have had to put you through all this pain."
