Short drabble I wrote a while ago. Kurt has recently transferred to Dalton, and Blaine has a crush. Too bad they're in completely different friendship groups.
The Warbler Council group always sat in the centre of the cafeteria. They had designated seats, and designated foods and designated conversations.
That, to the Warbler Council group had always been normal, that's how it was.
Until Blaine got a crush on the new kid.
The problem with this, was that Kurt was part of the Comedic group, who were the Warbler Council group's designated rivals.
The Warbler Council group were focused on progress, working together as a well oiled, very precise machine – and that meant following rules, guidelines.
But that was normal to them, that's how it was.
The Comedic group were everything the Warbler Council group wasn't. They were fun-loving, they messed about, they never followed protocols – ever.
And yet, they still worked, which is why the Warbler Council group despised them, life was easy for them.
Blaine had never really understood why the Warbler Council group were like they were, but then again, Blaine was a borderline member of the Comedic group, which is why he didn't understand why the rest of his friends didn't appreciate the fact that he'd fallen for the enemy. They didn't tell him he couldn't though, they were his friends, after all.
So day after day, week after week, Blaine sat, ignoring his designated food, and his designated conversation, and thanked god for his designated seat, that overlooked the bottom left corner of the cafeteria.
The Comedic group always sat in the bottom left corner of the cafeteria, near the windows and the dessert store.
They didn't have designated seats, they ate what they wanted, they talked about anything they could think of, they had fun.
Fun was nice to watch, Blaine decided one day, as he picked at his green salad and chicken slice, his hazel eyes following the Comedic group wistfully.
As though they could read his mind, three pairs of blue eyes looked over to him at once.
The twins, Jeff and Riker, and Kurt.
Blaine let out a dreamy sigh – beautiful, wonderful, gorgeous Kurt.
One of the twins whispered something into Kurt's ear, and the boy flushed bright red, eyes flicking back to Blaine, where they met his own.
Blaine could feel his own face flushing, his heart pumping faster in his chest, his palms becoming sweaty, but he decided to play it cool, and he smiled, waving to the boy.
Kurt flushed brighter, and elbowed the twin who'd whispered to him, before returning a shy smile back.
He turned back to his own table, where another four sets of eyes were watching him, all with one eyebrow raised.
Blaine shrunk in his seat.
"Sorry guys." he mumbled, biting his lip and picking at his green salad once again.
A snigger rung out from Wes.
"Keep that up, and he'll think you're in love with him!"
"Oh god, and then you'll be singing flirty duets, and making rainbows together – no! Klainebows!" David chuckled.
The happy mood around the table began to disperse, and soon though the table had gone sombre again, before Wes spoke,
"Speaking of duets, we need to discuss our set list for sectionals…"
Blaine tuned out once again, his head instinctively turning back to the bottom left corner of the cafeteria, where five boys were laughing together, nudging shoulders and sharing jokes.
Blaine sighed, yeah… Fun did look like fun.
