Chapter 1: The Ride
Rachel's POV
Sometimes I seriously hate my life. I stood in my room, my bag at my side as I waited. I looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows in my room. I was wearing tights, a black skirt and a white shirt with a black tie over it. Yanking at the tie to loosen the knot the maid had tied. The shirt itched my arms and the tights prickled my legs.
I had woken up and found the outfit laying at the edge of the bed. I had worn it not wanting to anger my father when I had promised him something. From the intercom, I heard the voice of my father.
"Rachel! We're leaving."
Pressing the silver button, I replied.
"Coming."
I sighed, looking at the outskirts of New York from my windows.
"Goodbye New York."
"Thanks, James." The chauffeur smiled at me.
"My pleasure Miss Dare. I trust you will be fine on the plane?"
I smiled back. "Of course, thanks again!" I waved to him, and turned, walking through the sliding doors of the airport.
Immediately, I looked for the nearest restroom.
Once inside the stall, I undressed and slipped on a tee and paint splattered jeans. I yanked my hair from the tight bun at the top of my hair, and brushed it into a loose ponytail.
Clutching the ticket tightly, I maneuvered through the crowds of people onto the section of the airport tourists, but at the very end was a station. I approached it and knocked on the glass booth. The guard inside looked up and smiled.
"Ah Miss Dare." I handed him the ticket and he nodded at me. A small beeping sound was heard and I pushed the metal gates open. Entering a white hallway. One I had been in many times. At the end of the hallway stood Tyler, the pilot.
"Hello Miss Dare."
"Hey Ty, how's life."
"Very well Rachel, how are your parents." He asked, taking her bags from my hand. He shouldered a door open and we stepped into the corridor leading to the plane.
I replied that they were fine and we continued making small conversation while Tyler typed the password onto a small pad.
The door opened with a hiss and I looked inside. Sitting on one of the seats was a tall woman. Her blond hair was tied back in a messy bun, and she was wearing jeans with a white blouse. Her face was hidden behind a gardening magazine, but I recognized her instantly.
"Liz!" She looked up from the magazine and smiled.
"Rachel!" She stood and opened her arms and I ran into them. She pulled me back and held me at arms length. "Goodness, you've grown!" I smiled shyly and thanked her.
Liz had been my babysitter ever since I could remember when I was a kid. When I got too old for a babysitter, she got promoted to general, and worked odd jobs whenever and wherever my dad needed. She was the one person in my dads company that I absolutely loved. She had introduced me to plants and the earth when I was a kid, and I've always felt like she was my real mother. With out her, I don't know who I would be today.
Ty rolled his eyes at us and set my bags in a cabinet of out privet jet. He walked towards the front of the plane and smiled. "Have a good flight ladies." And walked forward.
I settled in one of the reclining chairs across from Liz and asked, "What are you doing here? Las I knew you were in Africa setting up a store for the company."
"Well, no one else wanted to ride a plane with you-no offence-and I was nearly done anyway. Mariana took over the last stage of the set up and I came here."
"So you're my flight attendant?" She nodded.
In my most formal voice I said, "Well tut-tut, I want a sandwich!" She laughed at me.
"I thought you would say that." She reached into a cooling compartment and brought out a coke, a bag of chips, and a PB&J sandwich wrapped up in waxed paper. I clicked a button on my armrest and a small table appeared above my legs. Liz reached across and placed the food on the tray in front of me. I dug in, attacking the food.
"Don't inhale it!" Liz laughed. I slowed down enough to breath. And chugged down half of the coke. She laughed. The rest of the plane ride wasn't too interesting. I told her about everything that had happened in the last few years, leaving out the demigod stuff. By the end of the plane ride, Liz and I had caught up, and we were even closer than before. Before I stepped off the plane I turned back.
"Hey Liz?" She looked up at me, curiosity in her eyes. I hesitated. "Do you believe in… um… gods?"
"You mean like Zeus, Poseidon and Hades?" I nodded. "Well I think they really did exist once. Is that you mean?" I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded. I smiled and waved goodbye.
Once I stepped into the black limo in New Hampshire, and I had my thoughts to my self I began to get angry. Angry at my father for sending me to this school, angry at my mother for never being there for me, and most of all, angry at the gods for causing this horrible fate upon me.
There wasn't any point in saving the world if I still have to go through three years of torture. Well I didn't save the world. My friend and past crush had led an army against his all-evil grandfather.
Yet here I was stuck in the back of the limo while all my (real) friends celebrated their victory over Kronos, but I had promised to my dad I would go, so here I was. Ha-ha that's a new one, "The all famous Oracle of Delphi goes to finishing school." I didn't want to go, trust me, I would rather be painting in my super cool cave back at camp Half-Blood but a promise is a promise.
"Can you even see me finishing school!?" I had asked Percy. The savior of Olympus had just shaken his head, one arm-swinging Riptide, the other around Annabeth.
I was so happy for them, you would expect me to be sad that my previous crush had abandoned me for her, but I couldn't date, strict rule for the Oracle of Delphi, but I couldn't have even if I wanted to because I still had to go to this all girls school that was, well, all girls. Yet here I was inside my dad's limo. Torture if you ask me.
Yes I, Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Oracle of Delphi, was on my way to finishing school.
And CUT! Hope you guys liked it. Longer, better.
There are some chapters where I might just tweak, add, or take away some stuff, and some, where I might rewrite the whole chapter. It depends on how many good reviews that chapter got, how much I like it, and how good it sounds/flows. Like I said depends.
Love you guys!
