A/N. This is my first Fic so be gentle with me. The style is deliberate and I hope it works. It's 100% wussperv friendly.
Ms Mayer owns all things Twilighted. I own these little lovelies and their lives.
Thanks to my wonderful new buds and Betas Beans827 and edwardsisobel. Yep, it's only short but I needed two!
Pulling Pigtails
We met in the maternity ward, Edward and me. Our mothers were friends for a short time until my mother, Renee Swan, decided that the grass was greener anywhere but Forks. She took off rambling around the United States having dumped her two year old daughter on her twenty year old husband. I didn't see much of mom after that, just the occasional phone call, birthday and Christmas card. I saw her once in the next five years. Can't say I missed her.
In kindergarten, I told Edward that he looked funny in his new specs and he pulled my pigtail. I threw my fist at his nose which connected in a very satisfying way. He burst into tears as the blood from his damaged nose dripped relentlessly down his chin and I comforted him. We were inseparable after that. Of course we fell out from time to time, but we were best buds throughout our schooling. We played together, studied together, fretted over tests together. We practised kissing on each other.
His mom became my mom for all the essentials a girl needs a mother for. Esme and Carlisle, Edward's mom and dad, took pity on my cop dad, Charlie, and me and we were regulars for Sunday lunch once a month. Well, I went every Sunday, but Charlie had a little fishing to do which interfered with his visits.
Edward took me to the prom and we danced the night away. He looked gorgeous, as always, and I didn't scrub up too badly. We kissed a little and laughed with our friends. He took me home afterwards and he held me in his arms on my doorstep. He kissed my lips so sweetly.
We both went to Dartmouth, me on a full scholarship, him on a partial one. I studied literature, he music. The first year we spent in dorms. We would've shared but the college wouldn't allow it. My roommate was Alice Brandon. She was bubbly, tiny and a loyal friend. Edward roomed with a Texan, Jasper Whitlock. From the second year, the four of us shared an apartment. Living together was great fun; we partied a bit but worked hard, graduating with good degrees. We stayed together to do our Masters but split up after to pursue our chosen careers.
Now, 6 years on, I'm a successful novelist, you may have heard of me, Isabella Cappelleti? I have a successful series of vampire books out at the moment. No, I didn't marry Edward; he married Jasper. Jasper and Edward Whitlock-Cullen are the proud parents of two little girls. Alec and I have two children, both boys. Edward teaches piano and Jasper, like me, is a novelist, although he writes historical novels about the American Civil War. Alice stood for Jasper at their wedding and I stood proudly for my best friend, Edward.
I still couldn't ask for a better friend. Pulling my pigtail was the best thing Edward ever did, next to Jasper, of course.
