This little one-shot just came upon me. It took me awhile to decide which couple to do this with, but I think Zikki works the best. This story probably fits best somewhere in early season two, after Zane rediscovers Rikki as a mermaid but maybe before he's completely comfortable with the idea.

Disclaimer: I don't own H2O: Just Add Water or any of its characters.

Zane POV

Finally.

That's all I could think at the moment, for weeks I had watched Rikki just stare at the weather channel. She blew me off every time I had asked her out and I never knew why.

I had first thought that maybe she was looking at the moon cycles, trying to find another cosmic phenomenon, but after watching with her a couple of times I figured out that the channel never mentioned the moon what so ever.

By this point I was completely confused, and it's not like I could ask her what she was doing, every time she just mumbled something unintelligible.

So I was beyond grateful when she called me to go with her somewhere on Mako Island. It really didn't strike me as odd, most of our dates were spent on Mako Island walking through the jungle to explore, sitting on the beach just talking, or swimming through the coral, who wouldn't want a date in paradise?

As I drove my boat up to the beach, I saw her facing towards the island, like she was lost in thought. After pulling my boat up the beach and making sure it wouldn't go anywhere I turned and silently made my way towards Rikki. She's finally noticed my presence enough to turn around and face me.

It's then I see she's holding an item in her left hand, closer inspection reveals it's actually a rolled up umbrella. I gesture my hand toward it and give Rikki a questioning glance, she replies with a simple, "It's supposed to rain today" and walks away.

I run to keep up with her and ask her what she has planned for us, she turns to me with a smile on and happily tells me about a beautiful meadow she's found for the two of us. I nod at her silently and let her lead me into the jungle.

We've walked quiet awhile and when I see the faint glimmer of sun reflecting off the ocean water I realize we've walked to the other side of the island, the side facing nothing but ocean. She turns abruptly and suddenly I can't see her anymore.

I turn in the direction she went and see some vines covering an entrance like a door; I push them aside and find an amazing meadow before me. The meadow itself extends right into the ocean, no sand between the grass and water, and that's where I find Rikki.

She's simply standing there looking over the water and I join her after awhile. I don't know what she's up to, but I'm happy to finally be away from the television.

She turns and gives me the umbrella and tells me to wait a little bit away from her, it's only when I'm far enough away do I realize the storm clouds upon us. As the first raindrop hits me and I quickly open the umbrella I turn my attention back towards Rikki.

Suddenly, the heavens open up and the rain pours down at amazing speeds; I watch as Rikki simply smiles and turns her head towards the skies.

For the brief eight seconds she stands there before diving into the sea I can imagine Rikki is a normal girl.

For a moment I can imagine she's not a mermaid…
