The Dare
It was a bad day at the Thornberry's house.
Debbie's friends, Chelsea and Morgan, came over and decided to play a game of dare with Eliza, who refused to play.
"I dare you to take your mom's credit card."
"But I don't want to. That wouldn't be right." Eliza said.
"I said, I dare you to take your mom's credit card."
"Whatever." Eliza said as she went over to her mom's purse and grabbed a coupon that looked just like a credit card. "They'll never know the difference." Eliza said.
Eliza gave the coupon to Morgan who nodded and then smiled.
"This is fun!" Debbie said excitedly.
"I dare you to go into the yard, pull down your underwear and the moon the oncoming cars." Chelsea said giggling.
"Never, God gave me these clothes for a reason."
"Do it, do it, do it." Chelsea, Morgan and Debbie chanted over and over.
"Whatever. I'll do it. Maybe someday I'll get my dignity back."
Eliza walked out to the front yard, pulled down her shorts and pants and then mooned the cars passing by.
The cars honked and the people inside them said mean things, making Eliza wish she had never even started this daring game Debbie and her friends wanted to play.
"Are you happy now?" Eliza said, now totally embarrassed.
"Just one more thing." Debbie said happily.
Debbie whispered something into Chelsea's ear and then Chelsea said, "I dare you to go over to Old Mrs. Mandello's gazebo in the back yard and yell out that you are stupid, hate animals and the animals could care a less about you."
"No, no, no, no, no. I may have stolen my mom's credit card and shown my butt to people I don't even know, but I will not say mean things about animals. And beside, they don't even say things like that. I know because I can understand them, somehow."
"Then I guess we will have to get rid of Darwin then. It sure will be sad when he is gone. Who will paint my toe nails?" Debbie said."
"Fine, I will do it. But I had better not have to do it ever again. I love the animals and I respect them. I really wish I didn't have to say mean things about them."
Chelsea, Debbie and Morgan followed Eliza out to Mrs. Mandello's back yard and watched as Eliza climbed the gazebo and said that she hated animals and she could care a less about them.
Needles to say, Eliza won Debbie and her friend's respect.
