This is it, Bella thought. Just a few more minutes.
Bella had been told by Carlisle that she would die from a terminal disease unknown to him. He told her she only had a day- 24 hours to be exact- to live. That was 23 hours and 55 minutes ago. Where was he?
Suddenly she heard a rustling in the trees.
"You wanted to talk to me?"
"Yes." She stood up and walked toward Edward. She had called him about an hour ago and told him to meet her in their meadow.
"I need you to do something for me. Three things, actually."
"Anything, love."
"Edward, tell me you love me."
"Bella." He held her in his arms and looked deep into her chocolate brown eyes. "I love you more than life itself."
Bella smiled.
"Thank you. Now kiss me."
He tipped her chin up and kissed her lips, softly, tenderly. She kissed him back with all the energy she had left.
Just as he began to pull away, she yanked him back. She knotted her fingers in his hair and began gasping for breath; he ran his fingers up and down her back.
Bella finally started feeling dizzy and leaned against him.
"Thirdly?" he murmured into her hair.
"Love you," she breathed. "Hold me."
She died in the arms of her true love.
