so I am back with Twilight I hope you enjoy this different approach, there is domestic abuse and other triggers involved with this story. Though I have never experienced anything first hand I know people who have.
Everything belongs rlto the rightful owners I own my ideas and characters, thank you
Eva looked out over the counter at all her customers happily talking a drinking their coffee and smoothies, the way the kids were eating their cakes making a mess with the frosting. Eva smiled to herself and checked everything was on the till and that everyone was happy, the music keeping the place upbeat. The Boss Dean walked out from the office, he was a softie at heart
'All okay out here?' he looked around, noticing some of the regulars and wincing as the kids shrieked out
'Yeah everyone's happy thanks, you okay?' Eva turned to see that Dean didn't look okay, if anything he look as though he was going to be sick, or pass out.
'Excuse me can I get another coffee?' an elderly man said pushing his empty cup towards Eva, Dean just looked at him as she perked up and said that it would be brought over to him, Dean went back to the kitchen. Eva walked over to the gentleman, that she cared for so dearly.
'There we are Frank, nice and hot' She smiled pushing it towards him
'Thanks Love' he muttered putting his sugar in stirring it looking back out the window.
'You're welcome' Eva placed her hand on his cold hand as she left, wiping her hand on her pinnie checking the other tables clearing plates and laughing at the kids with the dirty faces.
Going over to the wash up station, Dean was looking on his laptop shaking his head.
'Table 3 said they loved the lava cake, their little one was using it as a face cream' Eva told him Dean gave a half smile but didn't look away from his screen.
Taking the money and thanking them for the small tips that they left Eva made her way around washing the tables and resetting them humming along to the music, looking outside at the dreary weather, Frank was still there Eva walked past seeing he was asleep she took his cup and took it to the kitchen Dean was washing up and getting ready to close up.
'Fanks still here' Eva told Dean
'Poor old Boy, he is here every day, looking out that window' Dean said Eva agreeing.
'I wonder how much Coffee he has over a year just from here?' Eva asked Frank looked at her slightly bewildered
'A lot, though it is mainly Coffee and lava cake' Dean said rubbing his eyes with his thumb.
Eva had worked at the Cafe in Forks for the past 3 years she started in her last year of High School to make some extra money and then once she graduated she wasn't sure what she wanted to do, so she picked up more hours. Now Eva worked Monday to Friday at the diner she knew most of the people in Forks, Frank being her favourite.
Getting ready to close, it wasn't always open at the weekends if it did open Eva didn't work.
Dean came out, looking tired.
'Eva can we talk, you're not in trouble' Dean said then he saw Frank.
'Sure, I'll just wake Frank' Eva said softly and went over to Frank, her hand went to his, it was stone cold this time, though it wasn't unusual for Frank to fall asleep.
'Frank, wake up, it's Eva you're at the Cafe' she called him his head flopped with a dull nod, Eva called for Dean then again more frantic stepping away from the body.
'Call the cops!' Dean shouted at Eva as he gently too frank and placed him on the floor laying Frank out ready to perform C.P.R Eva started to cry calling the cops.
'Hello, please police, someone. It's Deans in Forks I think someone's dead' she sobbed she could hear Dean pumping Franks chest
'C'mon Frank not today' Dean said out of breath as
Eva gave the address and tried to calm down.
'Dean?' Eva said
'Don't come in wait outside…. For the Police!' Dean called still working, Dean out of breath.
'Okay' Eva said rushing outside waiting.
They covered Franks small frail body, Eva could still feel Franks cold hands on her own, the way his head nodded forwards.
'I'll drive you home' Officer Swan said his face looked harsh covered with his moustash, Eva was sitting with Dean with a glass of water Dean staring into the distance he had washed his hands for 10 minuets straight as though trying to was the death away, though to Dean it had absorbed through his skin into his blood stream.
'Okay thank you,' Eva stood up putting her hand on Dean he just looked at her, sitting in the front of the car with her safety belt on, the trees all whizzed past as they sat in a stale silence.
'Thank you' Eva smiled.
'Your Dad knows what happened,' Charlie looked at Evas small face as she limbed out
'Thanks Charlie' the tone of Evas voice was flat and emotionless.
Closing the door she could hear her Mom cooking in the kitchen.
'Mom?' Eva called out
'Hi Love' she smiled remembering that's some of the last words Frank said to her Eva began to cry her Mom turned her back to the pots and pans and saw her upset daughter taking her in her arms. Eva let her Moms smell wrap around her like a layer of bubble wrap keeping her safe.
'What's wrong baby?' she cooed
'Someone died at work' She sobbed
'What? She held her baby girl away from her looking into her eyes making sure she heard her correctly.
'Frank' she nuzzled into her Mother
'Oh baby come on' she walked her daughter into the sitting room and sat on the sofa stroking her hair calming her down, the smell of burning make her Mom jump up and rush to the kitchen.
After eating the slightly charred meal, Eva had a long shower letting the water run off of her and down into the drain, standing emotionless not knowing how to feel. Frank spoke of family though Eva never met them, Frank lost his wife though he did open to Eva and she ate her lunch with him if he was in a good mood.
All wrapped up, Eva heard her bedroom door creek open, opening an eye her Dad walked in his frame filling most of the door way.
'Hi princess, Mom and Charlie told me what happened' He moved through her cluttered room to a free space at the end of her bed, it sank as he sat down the bed creaking slightly.
'I thought he was sleeping' Eva said looking at her Dad sitting up slightly.
'It's alright Eva just try sleep and we can talk. If you want, in the morning okay, Dean phoned to see how you are.' Her Dad stroked her hair
'Bless him, he knew exactly what to do and he was so calm,' Eva lay back down
'I know he is a good man, and you phoned us and you did all you could, well done princess. Proud of you' her Dad leant forward and kissed her head, pulling the covers over his daughter . Stepping over all the junk on his way out turning the light off
'Leave it on' he heard her small voice muffled from the covers, switching on her fairy lights he left the door open a crack.
'Do you think she'll talk?' Jeremy asked his wife once he walked into their bedroom, Christine on the laptop
'In her own time, C'mon some to bed you've had a long week' Chris put the laptop down as Jeremy stripped his uniform off and climbed into bed.
'Frank was a good guy' Chris said as Jeremy wrapped his arms around his small wife
'Yeah, Charlie said Dean had performed CPR for a while' Jeremy said as his wife nestled into his arms relaxing slowly.
'I'm worried about Eva' Chris said Jeremy was too.
That weekend, Eva stuck to her Moms side not leaving her, helping fold washing, her Mom helped sort her room and air it out and helped cook the meals and watched some films. Her Dad worked in his Office most of the time though Evas Mom could tell Eva was struggling to come to terms with what had happened. On Monday Eva woke up her friends didn't know what had been going on but they didn't all talk everyday a lot were at College.
'Morning!' her Mom came in and opened the draped making Eva roll over.
'Hm I don't want to go' Eva said looking at the time sighing
'I know baby just try, Dean will understand' Chris said walking out.
'Look at all this room; she slightly sung dancing in a circle in Evas room.
'MOOOMM' Eva rolled her eyes, moving getting comfortable
Eva pulled up to the Diner, Deans car was sitting outside, going in the back door, puling her pinnie on looking around getting ready to open up, the usual smell of fresh cakes and pastries filled the kitchen, Dean singing deeply to the radio.
'Mornin'' Eva called Dean turned looking more tired
'Eva? I wasn't expecting you, I've asked Flo to come in' he turned smiling as they shared a quick embrace
'I know but I had to see if you were oaky' Eva said looking at the different cakes and started plating them up.
'Yeah I'm okay, your Dad said you were coping alright' Dean said turning the radio down slightly.
'I just can't believe it' Eva said stopping what she was doing
'Well if you want to go home or have some time just say' Dean told her making sure Eva knew as she could be so polite she would do what she didn't want to as to not cause a fuss.
'Thanks Dean, what did you want to talk about the other day?' Eva asked picking the cakes up
'Oh yeah, set up then I'll tell you it isn't urgent.'
As Eva put the cakes out and set up pulling the blinds seeing Franks old seat, the little window he looked out of Eva always cleaned so he could see out of it. She sat down in his usual space looking at his view, a few tears rolling down her cheeks she sniffed and straightened up. She unlocked the door and flipped the sign. She reserved the table, Eva didn't want to see anyone is his space, not yet.
Being ready Eva went into the kitchen to see Dean.
'Eva I have tot tell you business isn't what it used to be, I am really struggling to meet the rent and wages, so I have decided in 3 months I will be selling up. I am telling you as I only decided last week, you deserve to know and to have time to find another job.
Eva just stood there taking it all in her job in 3 months was going to disappear. The bell rung Eva turned and walked out. Her mouth open though not knowing what to say.
'Hello there' Eva smiled at the older lady she was small she recognised her.
'Hello dear, I heard about Frank, I knew he loved it here and loved you' she passed Eva some flowers.
'Oh they are beautiful' Eva smiled choking up
'I am so sorry to hear he has gone' she wiped her eyes Eva went around the counter the lady was really small she wrapped her arms around her fragile body and held her.
'Frank would love them' Eva smiled the lady walked out, Eva went and put them on his table. It was a slow day most people came in spoke about Frank as though they knew him. None really knew him like Eva.
The next few weeks went past slow as Eva slowly got her head around everything. She rang her friends and told them what was going on they were supportive and wished they were in the same state so they could see her. Eva had 3 close girls that had kept in contact since highschool.
...
Work dragged on as news of Frank spread and tere were more visits from people that knew him, the days dragging out and staying close to her mom and Dad who were keeping an eye on Eva.
It was the morning of Franks funeral, Eva decided she should go. She put on her black dress and swept her hair back. Dean was picking her up. Eva had some flowers and a slice of Franks favourite cake, the cafe was closed for the day, Deans decision.
Her Mom gave her a long hug as there was a car pull up. Eva sniffed and walked out Dean waiting in his car.
'Hi thanks for taking me' Eva smiled Dean looked at the cake.
'I know Frank would be grumpy if he didn't have any' Eva smiled
'That's what I though' Dean pointed tot he back there was a cup and flask with 3 sugars next to it. Eva smiled
'Frank is going to love it' they drove to the church in silence a comfortable one. Eva couldn't believe how full the car park was. Most of Forks had turned out for Frank he would be so over whelmed they took a seat near the front. His family in the front 2 rows, the ones Frank had spoken about with such love.
Eva stood and walked over to the lady sobbing.
'Hi, Bonnie?' Eva asked the lady nodded
'Hello, I'm Eva Frank has told me so much about you all' Bonnie looked Eva over and broke out into a wide smile pulling her in close.
'Dad thought so much of you' she said sobbing.
Eva had met and spoken to most of the family. It was a beautiful service going though what Frank had done in his life, serving for his country always helping others. Looking after his wife as Cancer took her away. Eva felt as though she truly knew Frank he was a soft man at heart though it took a while to see it and that was if he let you in.
As the coffin was lowered in to the cold dense ground, Bonnie had loved their idea.
Eva placed her cake on the casket, Dean poured a coffee and put the sugars in as the other members of the family said prayers and placed flowers down.
…
Eva was dropped off back at her house, Dean told her to take the rest of the week off, when Eva opened her front door it was quiet then laughter.
'Hello?' she called out Eva sobbed with joy as her friends rushed around the corner hugging her and telling her they were here for the week.
Over the next few days, Eva began to feel like her old self, her friends helped her look for jobs and had a really good catch up. Going out for meals and walks. Just being with eachother meant so much to Eva.
Evas friend Jess had to go home early as she had a deadline, they all waved her off as she headed to the airport, Eva thanked her and gave her a massive hug. Kelly left the next day so it was just Eva and Holly stayed an extra day just chilling with Eva and spending time with her Mom and dad Eva waved goodbye and felt like she had moved on from that down time and was looking forward to the future and the next step in her life. Though the thought of Frank was always with her.
It was Sunday, Eva got in her car and drove to the beach, it was so calming there, she parked up and went down the large embank to the flat sand.
The sun shining through the dark clouds, finding a stick dragging it along the sand drawing patterns in the sand taking her shoes off, knotting the laces and placing them over her shoulder. Taking deep breaths. Eva looked down she was average height, not skinny but average, dark hair and light green eyes, looking around the beach was deserted, texting her friends that she loved them and continued to draw patterns in the sand and stepping over the lines drawn almost dancing.
Eva hoped no one was watching her as she would look so silly, thinking of Frank she smiled and was thankful for her loving friends. Drawing more lines walking backwards swirls and walking in circles.
Eva rolled her jeans up and splashed in the water, throwing the stick away she skipped splashing in the water spinning around.
'Hold me closer tiny dancer' she sang out smiling wishing she could hear the song.
Eva was nearly in La Push it was quite nice here though she didn't come this way very often apart from the beach, she walked and took some deep breaths the trees around here were so beautiful, climbing up the steeping hill, Eva saw there were more people ahead of her kids running around playing, kicking a football around.
Eva smiled to herself and continued walking along the beach feeling thirsty. Dusting her shoes off and rolling her jeans down she put her shoes on heading into the small reservation, passing the kids playing with the ball, one missed as the others cheered when it reached the water.
There was a small cafe with quite a few people in there, walking in it was clear they were natives there skin a darker colour and dark hair. Eva gave them a small smile and walked over to the counter.
'Hello, could I please have a coffee?' Eva smiled at the woman behind the counter
'Sure thing, take a seat' she smiled looking busy, Eva looked around there was a table for two near a window she sat down looking out and listening to the other conversations going on around her.
'Here we are' the lady rushed over spilling the coffee as she placed it down, Eva just smiled and thanked her sipping her coffee wishing there was some milk but it was fine, looking out the window, looking at her messages letting her Mom know where she was. Her Dad at work.
There was a bell on the door that's why everyone looked to see who it was, it was Charlie Swan, he ordered a Coffee and looked around nodding at people, he saw Eva and nodded to her taking the Coffee walking over to her.
'Hi Eva, how you doing?' Charlie asked always looking uncomfortable
'Hi well thank you, take a seat?' Eva asked sitting straight Charlie thanked her and sat down with his milky, un-spilt Coffee.
'Your Dad told me your friends came to see you' Charlie said taking a sip of his coffee
'Yeah they are all out of state at College, did you hear Deans is closing?' I asked him
'No really?' his eyebrows shot up paying attention. They sat and chatted a little more as Charlie downed his Coffee checking his watch.
'How's Bella?' Eva asked knowing Charlie didn't get to see his daughter as much as he would like to
'Okay I guess, her mother is moving again so she might be coming to stay with me a while' Charlie said a glimmer of hope flashed in his eyes
'Oh lovely, it would be good to see her again, it's been so long' Charlie Smiled and agreed standing up and saying good bye.
'Take care Eva!' Charlie said his moustache twitching as he smiled
Eva finished her drink and left the money on the table. Walking back the kids were gone from the beach, where had they gone?
This time leaving her shoes on Eva looked around she could hear voices but couldn't see where they were coming from. She went down the slope and rounded the corner on the straight back to where her car was parked, looking she could see 3 guys with their shirts off talking and laughing messing around, Eva felt the heat creep to her cheeks, making her way to the water so she was away from the guys.
As she walked past them they went quieter then more laughing, then she saw one heading her way, Eva just walked quicker her Dad had drilled some rules that she had to follow encase there was an incident like this.
'Wait up' the guy called Eva didn't stop she heard him she turned quick, too quick standing on her lace and tripped herself up, landing hard near the water.
'Woah' the guy said smiling leaning over her and holding her hand out, she ignored it and got herself up and looked at him and the others.
'Quill?' Eva asked hardly recognising the guy she used to hang out when Bella came to see Charlie as Bella and Eva hung out because their Dads worked together they did hang out with some of the Quillet guys.
'Eva knew it was you!' Quill beamed hugging her taking her off of the ground in a bear hug
'No way you look so different!' Eva said looking at him, he had always been a little chunky though he was a lot taller than last time she had seen him, though he still had his glasses.
'So do you. How are you?' Quill asked the others walking over
'Really good thank you, how are you and the others?' Eva asked
'Well Embry is still hung up on you' Quill said as Embry punched Quill in the shoulder, Eva laughed
'Ignore him he's still jealous we hooked up' Embry said as Eva beamed and hugged Embry looking at his long hair tied up in a bun, as he had toned up.
'Been working out?' Eva asked them both they just laughed and flexed.
They introduced Eva to Seth as they all laughed and had a good catch up, they swapped numbers and agreed to meet up it was Jake they used to hang out with as well, Jake and Bella were the couple that everyone wanted to live happily ever after, though it never seemed to happen, much to Jakes disappointment.
…
Eva sat at the table telling her Mom and Dad who she ran into her Mother asked questions where as her Dad was quiet he didn't say much.
'I'd be careful with those guys Eva they don't have a very good reputation' her Dad said cutting into his steak and chewing it whilst talking waving his fork about.
'Okay Dad, they seemed alright though' Eva shrugged
'Well their records down at the station tell me otherwise' her Father said cutting more vigorously this time.
'Sweetie' Chris said placing her hand on her husbands arm calming him down looking at his precious daughter he couldn't let her get involved with those no good Quillets, Charlie said how they were good to Bella but time has past and Jeremy knew how guys thought.
'Okay Daddy I'll be careful, oh also I have an interview this week' Eva changed the subject
'Yeah? Where for?' Her Mom asked
'The nursing home at LaPush, I don't know I loved talking and looking out for Frank and you enjoy helping the elderly don't you Mom?' Eva said seeing the look on her Moms face
'I do darling, but the sort of caring you might be doing is more hands on… Good luck with the interview I can help you prepair for it' Her Mom decided not to create an argument and smiled finishing quickly.
Dean was sorting out closing down and had put a sign up telling his customers that he was closing there was a sad atmosphere in the Cafe though Eva still loved working there her friends had suggested going to College.
'Sorry to hear you're closing down' a regular commented as Eva handed them their food order
'Yeah it really is' Eva smiled not really knowing what to say.
It was getting quite busy Franks table was in use by a couple all loved up Eva smiled Frank would have frowned at all of that public affection.
The door went it was Quill and Embry, they took a seat and smiled at Eva she got their order and whizzed about laughing and smiling hoping people didn't mind waiting a few extra minuets.
'Busy here!' Quill commented as Eva passed them their drinks
'Heard you two were coming in' Eva said winking at them
'Excuse me I've been waiting 10 minuets for my Coffee' a snobby woman called out to Eva
'Oh gosh, I am so sorry, I'll do it right now, I am so sorry' Eva put the food orders through Doug loved it when it was busy though they didn't expect this on a Monday.
'Order UP' Dean called
'2 Mins!' Eva called back pouring the coffee and passing it to the lady who just tutted.
Picking up the food and clearing tables on the way back.
After the rush was over Quill and Embry were now eating some cake, cleaning the tables down, Dean coming out to help with payments. The snobby lady talking to Dean. Eva feeling tired, thanking customers and waving to some small children.
The snobby lady just pushed past Eva as she wiped her brow and rolled her eyes Dean shaking his head at the lady.
'Well done Eva brilliant shift!' Dean said looking tired
'I'm going to paperwork, just call me if you need me' he said
'Okay thanks, is it okay if I have my break when it's quiet?' Eva asked
'Yeah sure thing!' Dean said smiling and going into his small office after taking a coffee with him.
The Cafe emptied out so it was just Quill and Embry.
'Any other drinks?' Eva asked
'God you were busy, how do you deal with all those people?' Embry asked finishing his soda
'used to it I guess' Eva smiled
'Sam could have a lesson on how to keep smiling' Quill said Embry agreeing
'Sam?' Eva asked
'Yeah, you having your lunch here?' Embry asked
'Yeah, I could do it now'
The 3 sat around a table talking whilst Eva ate a large piece of Lava cake and a large Coffee, keeping an eye on the door. Eva enjoyed talking to the guys going over what they have been up to for the past few years and the other guys they hang out with.
A couple came in, Eva excused herself wiping her mouth and going to the counter, Quill watched as Embry watched Eva,
'Dude you could be more subtle' Quill said Embry flipping him off
'Man talk about a crush' Quill said Eva glancing their way
'Shut up I swear to God' Embry growled a warning. Looking away finishing his drink.
The couple walked out as Eva finished her jobs her cake and drink still sat there, Dean walked out looking at the two guys hard then to Eva who didn't seem phased he took the till to cash up and told Eva to close up she took her drink from the table finishing it and then took the cake as the guys paid up.
Walking out the back door Eva saw them standing near the woods talking to each other.
'Don't do it man, its it worth getting her involved in this life?' Quill was saying in hushed tones so Eva wouldn't hear, Embry just ignored him
'Hey,' Embry called to Eva she looked at them both and raised her hand, Dean followed her as they saw him talk to her as she smiled and thanked him, he got in his car a drove off giving the guys a hard look as he drove past them.
'So you both going somewhere?' Eva asked they shrugged,
'Want to come to ours?' Quill offered getting a look from Embry
'Sure, are you free tonight? I need a shower we can hang tonight my Dad will be at work' they arranged to meet back at the cafe.
