In winter I get up at night,
And dress by yellow candle light.
In summer quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day,
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown up people's feet
Still going past me in the street,
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

The first time Sora tells Donald or Goofy much about his home world is three weeks after meeting them, circled around a campfire, roasting marshmallows Goofy had made a small splurge on. They didn't really need them and they weren't exactly the healthiest, or even most filling, of things to eat, but they were a comfort food Sora hadn't realized he missed until he took a bite of the warm, gooey mass.
Absently trying to get the sticky mess that inevitably comes with such a childhood staple off of his fingers, Sora spoke.
"You know, Kairi, Riku, and I use to do this all the time during the summer."
"Those are the friends ya' mentioned before, right Sora?" Goofy asked in his endearing drawl, trying to pull a burnt marshmallow off of his stick without too much trouble.
"Yeah. They were both so picky about how they cooked their marshmallows. I mean, I like mine burnt and crispy the best; it was always the easiest to just stick it in the fire, and blow it out. But those two would sit there and roast theirs' so slowly, until they were a nice brown color. I could eat half of a bag by the time they managed to only eat one or two."
Goofy and Donald chuckled as Sora pulled another marshmallow from the bag and pushed it onto the end of the stick he'd been using for roasting. Jabbing it into the center of the flames, Sora had only to wait a second before it caught fire. Pulling it back, he waited another beat before blowing the blackening lump out, now a crispy dark color.
"I wonder...if we'll ever get to do it again." Sora said quietly, now staring forlornly at the tasty treat.
He'd been traveling enough now to understand the severity of his situation. His home was gone, all of his loved ones were either scattered across the worlds or, worse, had become the very Heartless he was expected to destroy. He'd suddenly been named the Keyblade's master and had unceremoniously been thrown into an adventure of increasingly epic proportions. Truth be told, it was all rather depressing, really.
"Come on Sora, don't say things like that!" Donald said loudly, snapping the boy's attention from his darker thoughts.
"Yeah Sora, I'm sure we'll find Kairi and Riku in no time. Then you guys can eat marshmallows until ya' burst." Goofy said, smiling.
"And the king too!" Donald interjected, not noticing that the marshmallow he'd been roasting had fallen into the fire.
When Goofy pointed this out, and Donald started irately, though not discernibly, yelling at the fire, Sora couldn't help but laugh and feel like thing's were somewhat normal again. Even if it was just for a moment and even if it was just roasting marshmallows.

Oh my, I can't believe I've finally managed to get into this franchise. After almost seven years of me knowing somewhat what this whole series/game was about, I've finally taken the time to sit down and finally understand what the hell's going on. I don't own a PS2, so who can blame me for not really knowing, right?
Anyways, first time fic for these games, hope you like.
