A Moment

She sat, at the kitchen table, staring at her ring. It was, of course, perfect, unlike her first engagement ring. Or course, it was perfect. They were perfect. They were the perfect happy ending to the perfect tragic love story. Their friends and family would be telling the love saga of Ross and Rachel for years to come.

Why, then, did this not feel right?

Who really wants that dramatic love story? Sure, every relationship has its ups and downs, but theirs was to the extreme. Always had been. When they were good, they were really, really good. But, when they were bad, they were terrible.

That can't be healthy, can it?

But, it had to be. He was her knight in shining armor. She got off the plane for him. She gave up a whole other life for him. He was the father of her daughter. He was the love of her life. He had swooned over her for a decade. He had waited and waited. And then she had waited and waited.

He had screwed up. She had screwed up. They had screwed up.

Over and over. A relentless cycle. On-again, off-again. On-again, off-again. But, really, they had never really been on-again all that much. And though it was good, every once in awhile…

Would it be good forever?

Would they be good forever?

Had she, again, given up too much of her life for a man, to marry a man?

She stared at her ring, watching it sparkle and shine in the sunlight from the window.

Ross coming after her was a happily-ever-after moment. Her getting off of the plane was a happily-every-after moment.

What all of the stupid movies and fairytales don't tell you is that it doesn't just end at happily-ever-after. No one can live in that forever. It's just a moment. A fleeting moment. And you might have many happily-ever-after moments in your life.

But they don't last. They are just that. A moment.

Rachel sighed, taking the ring off, rolling it back and forth between her fingers.

Could she really just live in a moment forever?

Um…be nice. And please review. This is the first fic I have EVER written that was not Chandler-related, haha.
