It seems that the teenage angst phase of my writing is not over yet. Initially I didn't know where to put this darker story but as I started to shop around for a fandom I thought it could work as a case on Cold Case. Just so we're clear, this is an original case and original characters but I'm obviously going to use all the detectives from Cold Case to solve the crime. The story begins from the point of view of the victim.

She felt broken, like a porcelain doll that had been shattered. Someone had come along and repaired her, gluing together all the tiny shards until you could barely see the seams. But there were still a few pieces that had never been recovered. And in the empty cavity that should have held a heart, she instead held the memory of being broken, and of once being whole.
"Sarah!"
She didn't respond. She had learned that it was best not to respond when he got like this. Instead she crouched down, pulling her knees tightly to her chest as she pressed her face against the glass and imagined that the frost outside was seeping into her veins.

His voice was louder, closer. He wasn't attentive enough to realize that this was her favorite hiding spot, though admittedly she would secrete herself in many different spots in the house to avoid discovery.

"Hiding again, little mouse?" he sneered. "What have I told about answering me when I call for you? Look at you, thin and pale and frigid. Who would want a sexless thing like you? But instead of being grateful you hide in here and…"
It was then that he spied the book in her hand. He glanced at the title before his eyes met hers again, flashing their ire. "What have I told you? What have I told you, Sarah?" he shouted as he hurled the book across the room.

She felt the cold seep into her veins as the life slowly left her body.

And this is the part of the story where the victim is lying on the ground alone and then the theme music starts playing. Let me know if you liked it.
