Gibbs looked over at Tony, worried about the younger man. He had been quiet since returning from talking to his father and soon to be stepmother. Gibbs had always worried about Tony when his father was around, it was never good. But this time was different. Tony didn't seem like his usual self. He was smiling, or making fun of McGee. Bishop was providing wonderful bait for him to tease her, and he wasn't taking it. He knew something was bothering the agent, and intended to find out what it was.
"DiNozzo, follow me," said Gibbs as he stood up.
Tony didn't answer, just followed his boss blindly like always. He could always trust Gibbs, and knew that his boss would never let him get hurt. Gibbs stopped suddenly behind the stairs to MTAC, and Tony walked into him.
"Sorry boss," said Tony immediately.
"Don't need to be sorry Tony. I should have warned you I was going to stop."
"Okay."
"Tony, are you okay?"
"Of course I am. Why?"
"You seem very upset. Talk to me. What happened with your father?"
"Nothing..."
"DiNozzo."
"Okay." Tony sighed. "It's not bad. He's actually happy for once."
"But?"
"But... she's my mum's best friend."
"You think this is wrong?"
"Yes. No. I don't know. I want him to be happy, but I don't think it should be with Linda."
"Why not? Is she happy?"
"Yeah, she seems like she is."
"Then why is it bothering you Tony?"
"I guess, I...I feel like he's betraying mum by marrying Linda."
"Tony," said Gibbs softly, "your mum is gone. Nothing can hurt her anymore, including this."
"I don't want him to forget her..."
"He never will. He has you to remind him. Trust me."
Tony looked up. "Thank you boss."
"You're welcome."
