AUTHORS NOTE: This story may seem a little choppy and vague, but it is meant to be that way. If there is a part that confuses you, please feel free to leave a comment about it; improvement can always happen in a work of creativity. No flaming, please, have a little common courtesy!
Naruto belongs to all the people who legally own it, not me, obviously. Uotani Yusaku, however, is my own creation, so she IS mine.
Just as a quick summary, this story Uotani reflecting on how and why her and Shikamaru wound up together with all they've been through. This is, I guess, a sort of AU, since I severed the relationship between him and Temari. In truth, I think they make a cute couple, but I had this idea in my head, so I wrote it.
Enjoy, and please, feel free to comment!

What brings people together?
Destiny? Fate? Uotani believed things like that were such lofty ideas. Maybe her thought processes were too grounded in reality.
What draws opposing forces together?
Magnetism? Gravity? Sometimes, it's not something that can be seen or measured. Uotani always wondered what could draw two people on two totally different paths together. She only stuck around Shikamaru as long as she did because she and her sister were forced into Konoha. Where else did they have to go after their home was taken over by the Akatsuki than with their sensei in Konoha? She didn't even really know Ino or Chouji, and Shikamaru; well he was completely out of the question…
Why would someone run into the arms of a stranger?
Pain? Loneliness? It was what the both of them felt, she knew. For the same reason, from the same source. He had been jabbed through the heart by a blonde, striking and strong in all aspects, with deadly eyes and an unwillingness to deal with his laziness. She had been broken by a man, alluring in all he said and did, topped off with a violet Cheshire grin. She had loved him fully, and he had tossed her aside in annoyance. Such disaster. Yet together they moved on.
What drives two people to love each other?
Lust? Connection? Both had been sure they had love, and both had been proven wrong. Still, when he was tired of no longer having companionship and too lazy to look for it, she came to him. When she was once again met with the cruel violet Cheshire grin and had her wounds reopened, he had picked her up again and defended her. He had refused to let her go. They were now entangled in each other.
Destiny. Fate.
Magnetism. Gravity.
Pain. Lonliness.
Lust. Connection.
What ties, what draws, what drives souls into eternity together?
For them, it was the Sand.
