Percy had always been a light sleeper, so it was no surprise to him that he woke up suddenly when he heard a slight sound coming down the hall from his bedroom. Instead of waking Audrey as well, he decided to check it out himself. He walked through the halls of his home hesitantly, his wand held at his side. Though the war had been won, and there had been no uprisings of crime in years, he was a firm believer of the motto, 'Better safe than sorry'.
He expected to really be just paranoid and see nothing out of the ordinary in his living room. What he didn't expect to see was his elder daughter in the armchair by the fireplace. She was dressed in her Hogwarts uniform with the currently plain black tie, and her trunk was already packed and sitting at her feet. Her eyes, which were previously half-closed, sprung open when he entered the room.
"Dad," she said in surprise.
Percy chuckled as he walked up to her and flipped on the lamp by the chair. "A bit eager, aren't we?" he teased.
She blushed and said matter-of-factly, "I want to be on the train as early as possible."
Percy looked towards the clock that stood next to the lamp. "The Hogwarts Express doesn't leave for another eight hours, Mol."
"The early bird catches the worm," she quoted while trying to stifle a yawn.
"I think it would be better for you to go back to bed and get some more sleep," he said as he reached for her hand. But she quickly grabbed it back. "I can't. What if we're late? Then I'll miss the train like Uncle Ron and Uncle Harry!" she said frantically.
Percy shook his head. Why did those two tell her that story? "I would never let you miss the train to the most magical place on Earth," he assured her.
"Really?" she asked, taking his hand and finally allowing him to pull her from the chair.
"Really," he said as he flipped off the lamp and they walked back to her bedroom. Her trunk could stay where it was. It would save them the trouble of moving it in the morning. "You'll wake up feeling rested, we'll have a lovely breakfast and Mommy will even be able to help you tackle your bed-hair before we leave the house."
Molly frowned at her dad's joke. Molly had always hated her hair and Percy knew that, though he never saw anything wrong with it. "Dad," she whined as she grabbed at her short curly locks.
"I won't mention it again if you fall asleep in the next few minutes," he said as he pushed open the door to her room. He waited for her to change back into her night clothes and jump back into bed. He tucked her in and said, "Goodnight, Mol."
"Goodnight, Dad. Remember to wake me up," she insisted as she turned onto her side.
"I will," he said.
