A/N: Merry Christmas! (yay for posting on holidays) A poem inspired by Princess Agitha. AgithaLink. There's more info at the end.
The Butterfly and the Grasshopper
I was invited to the princess's ball
But instead of finding politicians and kings
Belles and knights on noble steeds
Or guests of nobility
I found just the host and the insects
For she was, oddly enough, their princess.
The bugs all circled in a dance
Intricate as you can imagine
The Swallowtail Butterfly, the princess
At the epicenter of the dance
She stood so proud and happy
Most wouldn't have caught the glint of sadness
Her wings' solemn beat betrayed her emotions.
All the bugs were in pairs, of pillbugs and beetles
Ladybirds and snails, all dancing with each other
But the Swallowtail Butterfly was alone
Save for the couples twirling about her.
I stood outside the dance, watching carefully
And wond'ring why I'd been invited
I stood by the wall and out of the way
Unable to join in the dance of the ball
The door opened, and I glanced to it,
As did the Swallowtail Butterfly
And the Grasshopper stood in the threshold, a noble knight,
He was not like the other guests at the ball
But rather like the Butterfly
He took the Butterfly's hand and they
completed the circle of dance.
The Butterfly and the Grasshopper gazed at each other
The other dancers were memories, nothing more
Their gentle steps made me sway in rhythm
There was no music but I could hear it
I never stepped on the floor at that ball
But I indulged in the joy of watching them dance.
A/N: Hmm….I don't know how I am at poetry, I'd like an honest opinion of what you thought. I'm not sure who's POV this can be told from; I just wanted to write this from an outside opinion, not Agitha or Link's. If you want, you can say that it's you watching them at the ball…nyah.
The reference to Link being a grasshopper was hopefully obvious; he's been referred to as a "grasshopper" by Romani as well as Agitha herself. Agitha was a Swallowtail Butterfly because, according to Wikipedia, her Japanese name (Ageha) is a reference to the word for this butterfly (agehachō) [I copied/pasted that directly from Wikipedia, btw. Plus, she wears butterfly wings (or is she really a butterfly anthro? o), so she would have to have been a butterfly.
