Gwen knew that she should go down there. To maybe execute a Matrix style jump off the two story balcony she was now standing on, somehow be unhurt, and run over to the pair, screaming her head off. But, the again, why would she? They weren't doing anything, not even touching; just sitting there, staring out into the ocean.
And she knew now was the only chance she would get see Duncan and Courtney actually act normal to each other ( you know, for them.)
For ever since the two had made it out to Playa De Losers Hawaii ( which sounded like a trashy reality show title to Gwen) to wait out who would win the million, they had been different. Strange. Not like they were during World Tour, when the betrayal was still fresh. This was the later part, the aftershock to the earthquake that rocked Total Drama.
When the cameras stopped rolling, Courtney seemed to lose her purpose; what kept her tethered to the ground. She flipped like a switch, from singing show tunes and baking cookies, to suddenly going completely Exorcist on someone for leaving their drink on the counter without a coaster. Leshawna thought she was having a mental breakdown. Geoff was almost positively sure she was on drugs. Gwen considered it a cry for attention ( we all know she isn't above using pity to get her way) until Bridgette, in her most pissed off tone ( so mild annoyance on anyone else's scale) informed them that Courtney was having to grapple with losing her boyfriend, and one of her best friends (pointed look at Gwen here) in front of millions of people and how sane would you be if you had to deal with that? Gwen knew that statement was for her alone. Besides Bridgette's stony glare, it was a proactive way to send her on a guilt trip from the past.
Trent still had to do everything nine times.
When Duncan came a few days after Courtney, it had gotten worse. What was once Gwen's joy at seeing him had turned to exasperation when he would spend most of his time fighting with, you guessed it, Courtney. Whether it was his sly comments about how she held something, to late night soap operas where they all out had screaming matches about all they money he had won and then subsquently wasted on her, it kept all the housemates on their toes. Questions of the day went from What is for lunch? to How can I time it so I get maximum sleep before the freaking apocalypse begins again?
So it could be said Gwen felt just a little strange at seeing the two together, not being completely ridiculous. And for a moment, Gwen could see what had brought Duncan and Courtney together, that invisible force that had made them both go bonkers. Maybe what tied them was the way they carried themselves, or the acid thoughts that she knew constantly ran through both of their heads. Then, whatever connection she saw was gone. What was left was kind of depressing, a relationship of fiery passion that exploded outward in a mess of hate, and Gwen suddenly felt a reminiscence for her own relationship with Trent. For after all the fighting and crying and craziness, they too had sat side by side, on the Total Drama Action set, not touching, not speaking, just knowing that it was an end to a era.
A/N: I don't know why I like writing these big, reflective pieces where nothing of importance happens. It's just my thing. Anyway, if this was a little confusing, then good. It should be. How I think of Total Drama is a bit strange, but in this instance, I guess it flowed.
