The Question
After many years of trying, Gambit had finally sweet-talked Rogue into a date. Just to ask her on a single date took him most of the time he had known her. Even with knowing that she liked him it made it hard for him.
"Ah 'ave been lookin' fo'ard t'dis day for a long time, Petite."
"So 'ave ah. Why did it take you dis long to ask me?"
"Ah was scar'd. I remember what happen'd on our last kiss. I woke up in de hospital. Ah didn't know what had happen'd. Really scar'd me, Chere. I 'ave always car'd 'bout ya. Ah just never knew how t'tell ya. Ah…"
Rogue interrupted, "Ah 'ave always cared 'bout you. That's why ah took the risk on kissin' ya. Couldn't ya tell form that?"
Gambit took a moment to think. "No, ah never thought 'bout it dat way. Come t'think 'bout it, ah should 'ave. Ah just ne…"
"Don't speak." Rogue put her hand over his mouth and kissed it. "Dat was for all the time I wanted t'be with you. All the lonely nights we spent apart. Dat was for us."
"Chere, why must we suffer on all dat we don't know 'bout each other. Dat kiss was in the past. But even when ah woke up in de hospital ah knew dat ah want'd you. No other girl has ever made me feel dat way. Please, give me the chance dat ah have been waiting for all my life, Petite. You 'ave always been the one dat ah 'ave been looking fo'ard t'seein' no one else could make me like dis when ah am wit' them. Will ya please give me dat chance?"
"Gambit, why didn't you tell me 'bout dis before. Of course ah will give you dat chance. Why wouldn't ah?"
"I thought 'cause you didn't like me. But ah now see dat ah was blind. You risk'd ever'thing wit' dat kiss."
With that Gambit pulled rogue close to him. Hugging her with one arm. This was the closest that they had been for a long time. After that, they went out for an evening for just the two of them, away from all that didn't matter to either one.
