Her Visit, The Resulting Fall
Our story starts off with Bella, obviously, at the Cullens' place. All the Cullens were out hunting, except Carlisle, who kindly offered to stay with her, saying that he "wanted to get to know his new daughter-to-be better".
"Bella, I have some paperwork to finish up, and then we can spend some time together." He smiled kindly. "Is that okay?"
"Of course, I wouldn't want to interrupt your work." Bella replied, blushing slightly.
Carlisle smiled wider. "You're not interrupting at all. Just try to stay out of trouble, okay?"
At this point, Bella blushed even brighter. "Sure, I was just going to go take a walk outside. I'll try not to trip over a tree root." She replied, rolling her eyes.
Carlisle chuckled at this, turned, and headed up the stairs to his office. Bella listened to his footsteps and waited until she heard the soft click of the office door to head outside. She wandered around for awhile until she saw the tree Edward climbed with her when she first came over. She smiled at the memory, and almost started walking again when she decided that she wanted to try climbing it.
She wrapped her arms and legs around the thick trunk and started shimmying up the tree. Once she got to a place with more branches, she quickly unwrapped herself from the trunk and started going up the branches. When she got a decent way up, she found a sturdy branch, swung her leg over it and sat down.
"What a beautiful view...I can see for miles from up here." Bella murmured.
Before she knew it, the sun was starting to set. The sun had just set when she heard Carlisle calling.
"Bella? Bella sweetie, where are you?"
"Up here!" She called softly.
She knew he heard her when he appeared at the base of the tree. He looked up and smiled.
"Having fun up there?" He called.
"Yes, I was just watching the sunset."
"Are you coming down now that it's dark?"
"Sure, just a minute."
Carlisle gave her a concerned look. "Be careful, it's harder getting down than it is climbing up."
Bella nodded and started down. She was doing well until she slipped, making her lose her balance and fall. Carlisle rushed forward, up the tree, and caught her halfway down.
"I thought I told you to be careful." He said, as he carried her on his back the rest of the way down.
At this, Bella blushed yet again, but replied. "I thought I was..."
As they got to the bottom, he set her down and turned to look at her.
"Well try to be a little more careful next time. I don't want to lose you." He said gently, half smiling. "Now come on, let's get those scrapes cleaned up."
Bella looked down. Apparently, when she fell, she scraped herself up on the branches. After a minute of looking herself over, Bella looked up and saw Carlisle patiently waiting. He smiled softly, and gently ushered her into his office.
As Carlisle cleaned her up, she sat perfectly still, only wincing at the antiseptic occasionally. When he finished, he started to pull away, but Bella stopped him by putting her hand over the one he had on her knee.
She looked up into his butterscotch eyes, and said: "Thank you...Dad."
Carlisle looked shocked for a moment, but then broke out into a huge smile, and hugged her tightly. (By human standards, of course.) No, thank you, Bella. You've done so much for Edward. And all of us, really. I'm proud to call you my daughter."
Carlisle, of course, knew that Bella would blush and try to change the subject, so he did it for her.
"Do you want to go downstairs and watch something?"
Bella looked up and smiled. "Sure, that sounds nice."
So they went downstairs and watched "Nurse Jackie" until everyone came home.
...
"You know...Doctor Cooper looks a lot like you."
