Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third woke up to Toothless jumping on the roof.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming bud. Hold on a minute," he grumbled, stumping down the stairs. Throwing open the door, he shoved a basket of fish toward the hyper Nightfury. "Eat up, it's going to be a busy day. I'm putting the automatic tail on after breakfast." Pulling out the contraption, Hiccup ate his own hurried meal before swapping out Toothless's prosthetic.
"There," he said with a pat to Toothless's head. "What do you say to a morning flight before work?"
Toothless waved his tail and leapt around excitedly. Hiccup laughed. "Alright, I'll take that as a yes."
*I am a line break*
"Alright bud, time to head back," Hiccup called over the wind, starting to steer Toothless back towards Berk. "Toothless, what are you- stop that, turn around RIGHT NOW!"
Hiccup's cries were in vain as Toothless ignored his instructions and instead of going home, veered off course, further into the archipelago.
Hiccup cursed. Why had he decided to use the automatic tail typical

"Finally," Hiccup sighed as he and Toothless touched down on the village. "I have no idea what's gotten into you. Where is everyone?"
It seemed as though in the time they were gone, the entire population of Berk had vanished into thin air.
"Hello? Anyone?" Hiccup called as he walked through the empty village, Toothless at his heels. As they approached the Great Hall, Hiccup said offhandedly to his companion, "If they're not here, I don't know what I'll. . ."
He trailed off as they entered to see decorations everywhere, the entire village shouting, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
Astrid came up behind him and gave him a hug. "Hey," she said. "You didn't think we'd actually give you that much work today, did you? Unless you forgot your own birthday. . ."
"Heh. . ."
Astrid shook her head fondly. "What am I going to do with you? Good thing we had Toothless to help us out."
"Wait, you planned this entire thing?!"
"Duh. Happy Birthday, Hiccup."
