Sugar High

"Ah HA!"

The sound that left Sandburg's mouth was dangerously close to a squeak. He swallowed hurriedly. "Jim, I can explain!"

"I can't believe you, Chief! Two week's ago you forced me into this crazy plan to stop eating sugar. Then I come home to this!"

"It's not my fault! Cynthia—one of my older student's—she's a single mom. She brought two boxes of them to class to sell. It's a fundraiser for her son."

"And what—she sat on you, forced you to buy one?" Jim griped. Two weeks without sugar was making him cranky.

"No. But a bunch of other students bought them. And I tried—I really did—but the scent of chocolate just permeated the room. Even the scritch of the foil as they opened 'em was a Siren's call. I couldn't think. Man, those candy bars were practically screaming my name.

"Gimme a piece."

Blair's fist compulsively closed around the treasure. "No."

Surprised, Jim echoed, "No?"

"Uh uh. I can do better." Blair stood and jogged to his backpack. He returned a second later, dropping five more onto the table.

"Figured you might want one of your own."

Ellison grinned gleefully and grabbed three.

Fin
