Spike was sitting on the ladder in the Magic Box quietly watching the showdown between Red's girlfriend and her family. He still had a headache from when he had hit her earlier and his infernal chip had tried to fry his brain.
He was having trouble dealing with the fact that he had *helped* the Scoobies - the group of wankers that had foiled his every plan.
Bloody hell, the neutered vampire thought, I'm turning into a poof just like my bloody sire and it's all the Slayer's fault. He growled and kicked the wall.
That got Buffy's attention, she looked over at Spike with a strange expression on her face, it wasn't the repulsion or loathing that usually occupied her face when looking at him, it was something elseā¦
Spike noticed that the Maclays had left and the Scoobies were talking amongst themselves. Red was comforting Tara. Demon Girl and the Whelp were chatting quietly. *Most likely talking about the sexcapades that were almost certainly going to be happening later that night*, Spike scoffed. Dawn was pestering the Watcher about something, and Buffy was coming over to Spike.
*Buffy* was coming over to *him*?
*Oh God*, Spike thought. His expression remained cool and collected, but inside he was as giddy as a schoolboy. *What am I doing? She's probably just going to kick me out*, Spike's rational side told him.
"Spike?" Buffy asked
*Cor, she's beautiful* He allowed his eyes to cautiously take in her beauty, "Yeah, Slayer?"
"I, well, I just - " She began, trying to find the right words.
"Come on, spit it out, I don't have all day," He complained, his voice laced with mock displeasure.
"I wanted to thank you for what you did. For Tara." She said.
*She's thanking me?* "Don't mention it," he shrugged, attempting to sound unconcerned about the incident.
"No, really, what you did, it was really nice and you didn't - " Buffy tried to explain.
"What I mean, Slayer, is don't mention it *ever again*." He growled.
Buffy smiled, "Yeah, well thanks anyway."
"Oh great," Spike said angrily, "I help you damn Scoobies out and I never hear the end of it. Fifty years down the track Grandma Buffy is going to be telling her little grandchildren the tale of how William the Bloody helped the poor defenceless witch that was accused of being a demon. Great, just bloody *great*!"
To Spike's surprise Buffy laughed, and laughed and laughed.
"Shut the hell up, Slayer" he tried to sound stern but failed.
Buffy continued laughing; she sat down next to Spike on the ladder to keep from collapsing. After a while Spike was chuckling along with Buffy.
Willow looked at Buffy in surprise, that was something she never thought she'd see, Buffy and Spike, two mortal enemies laughing together like they were best friends.
"Buffy? Are you coming?" she asked.
The giggling Slayer took a few deep breaths to compose herself, "Huh? Oh yeah, Tara's party." She stood up and turned to Spike, "Goodnight, Spike"
Buffy walked over to where Willow and the gang were waiting, they began to leave through the front door, once again, Buffy turned to where Spike was still sitting, "Oh, and thanks."
Spike groaned and Buffy giggled, then left with her friends. Spike watched them walk towards the Bronze.
"You're welcome, Buffy" he said to himself knowing that he'd never be able to say it to her face.
