Prologue

Time something Pepper Potts had very little of. From handling the day to day dealings of Stark Industries to being Tony's personal assistant. Leisure time was something of the past. Yet as she walked passed the lunch area she sighed. Her heart ached as she watched the smiles and heard the laughter of her fellow employees. She often yearn for such moments but those days were long gone.

Sitting at her desk with her bag lunch off to the side Pepper managed to swallow some of her juice as she scanned over her agenda for today. Within moments she had forgotten about her Lunch as she dived into her emails and worked on the mountain of documents on her desk.

As the day went on the sun steadily dipped within the sky which meant dusk had finally arrived. The moment 6 PM rolled around Pepper's cell phone rang. She pulled it out from her bag and set it on the desk. Tapping on the speaker option Pepper continued working.

"Hey Tony." Pepper replied as she typed away.

"Busy as usual?" Tony asked.

"Of course." Pepper replied.

"I guess I cant steal you away for dinner?" Tony asked,

Pepper stopped typing she could see herself on the couch with Tony by her side. They would watched movies and stuffed their faces with pizza while throwing bits of it at one another. But as she looked over the few documents she had left to do and the half a dozen emails left to finish Pepper knew she wasn't going any where.

"I am going to have to say sorry." Pepper replied.

She felt bad when she heard Tony sigh. She wanted to say something but she knew she had already upset him.

"Alright I guess I will see you when u get home." Tony said before hanging up.

Blinking away her tears Pepper kept working while every fiber in her being shouted at her. Loyalty to the job was her curse. She could of went home hours ago but she had to make sure everything was done and in there proper place or else it would be something else she would have to do tomorrow. No she was stuck here till it was all done.

As the night rolled on the documents were no longer on her desk, they were sighed and placed in their bins. All the emails and phone calls had been answered as well. Yawning Pepper looked at the clock, she rose to her feet when she saw it read 8 o'clock. Grabbing her bag she ran out of her room and toward the elevators. She had a chance to fix this, she hoped if she got home in time maybe she could make it up to Tony for it's the least she could do.

Standing at the elevator Pepper sighed as she tapped her foot. It was taking forever for the elevator to arrive. So taking a deep breath she headed down the stairs instead.

Running down flight after flight Pepper was making perfect time. She came to a stop at the last flight of steps. Breathing heavily her eyes were fixed on the main doors. But the moment she took a step her foot twisted. Her eyes widen as she tumbled down the stairs with her head hitting every step. Once she reached the bottom Pepper couldn't move. Her head ached way too much along with the rest of her body.

As Pepper raised her hand to the ceiling she could see the smiling faces of her friends and family and at the end she saw Tony's face as well. As her arm dropped to her side and the darkness finally loomed in her lips mouthed one word before going limp.
