They are polar opposites. You wouldn't even need magnets to figure that part out. She's the new girl in Republic City, the Avatar, and she's just looking to make friends. Mako doesn't want to get to know her, he doesn't need to get to know her. But she's shoving herself into his life, and he hates it. For her, he's the forbidden fruit. A child at heart, she becomes obsessed with having what she can't have.

At first they can't help but just explode on one another. They might have gotten along better, but it appears as if her ears are there for decoration. They constantly fight, and eventually it turns into something to fall back on. She never surprises him, the way she acts. He's got her all figured out, yet she just can't seem to get through his barriers. So they keep at it like this, fighting and attempting to communicate.

Then comes the day where they don't fight, and it bothers her. He thought she was just a big child, but in reality, she was just a girl who knew the way so well that she got lost. It takes a while for him to realize this, and it breaks his heart. She knows her goal so well and wants it so badly, but she always looses sight because she's always in the NOW and that's all she'll ever be. She wears her heart on her sleeve because she knows she's got a damn strong arm to protect it. She's stubborn and rash, her hobby is to rush in because she can't sit still and she's too proud to do otherwise. He wants to help her find her way, so even if she is lost, she'll be able to get to her goal.

She's willing to change, and he knows that. She wouldn't challenge him every day if some part of her didn't want him to prove her wrong. He tries to find a way to communicate. So they fight her style, bending. He doesn't evade her blows like he knows her, because he doesn't. He fights each one back head on, an aggressive challenge, he doesn't know her next move but he can fight her anyway. He needs to show that he's worthy, because if he's not he has no value.

"When will you understand that you don't have to do this alone, Korra?"

"I have no concept of time."

"Will you see that you're not alone?"

"I'm blind."

"Will you ever listen to me?"

"I'm deaf."

They fight some more. This time he's winning because he knows he got into her head.

"So if you aren't going to get any help, then what will you do with Naga?"

"I'll transport myself."

"But you're blind."

"I'll listen to my surroundings."

"But you're deaf."

"I'll find a way."

"But you're lost."

She's frustrated, and her fighting gets clumsy. He takes the shot and manages to pin her down.

"Do you know what the job of the Avatar is?"

"Bringing peace.

"For who."

"For the world."

"What about you?"

For this she has no answer.
