Warnings: Fluff.
Pairings: Cloud/Riku
Sassy's Note: Written for Jedi with the prompts "star" and "run". I had free reign to chose whomever I wanted… but these two seemed to fit.
Caught You
The sand was cool beneath their feet. The night had brought gentle winds and lightened temperatures to the islands. It was pleasant outside now, and the beach was nothing short of lovely with the rolling waves and sounds of the ocean. The pale moon provided all the light the two lovers on the beach needed. Together, they looked up into the sky.
Cloud had never seen so many stars at once. Not even Radiant Garden could compare with Destiny Islands when it came to the night sky. He had to admit, too, that he much preferred the evening as to the daytime. The harsh island sun and heat had not agreed with him the first few days. As Sora had so tactfully told him that first night, he bore a keen resemblance to a splotchy lobster in a wig.
The islands weren't exactly horrible, though. The food was good; the people were kind; the air was not polluted – big plus on that one. Cloud supposed he could get used to living here – so long as a certain teenager was with him.
"It's beautiful," he said, eyes on the stars. His voice was low, as though he didn't want to interrupt the tranquility of the scene. The fingers intertwined with his tightened.
"I'm glad you like it." Sea green eyes shone at him as the moon reflected in them. Riku leaned over and pressed a light kiss to his lips. "I'm glad you came." Another kiss. "But I wish you could stay."
Cloud closed his eyes and rested his forehead against Riku's. He wanted to stay too, but this vacation had to end. He had to go back to Radiant Garden. He still had work to do. He still had to find Sephiroth.
"Hey, Cloud, look!" Riku said eagerly. The blond opened his eyes and pulled away. Riku was pointing into the sky. Cloud saw it just before it vanished out of sight.
"A shooting star," he mused, smile pulling at his lips. "It's been awhile since I've seen one of them."
"Me too." Riku stared at the sky for a beat longer. "You know… when I was little, I used to chase shooting stars."
"Really?" Amusement was evident in Cloud's voice.
"Yup." Riku grinned. "I used to think that they were showing me where to go, that they were telling me how to get off this island. So, I chased them as far as I could go. I'd always hit water, though." The teen chuckled a bit. "I thought that if I could just catch one, I'd be out of here and onto bigger things."
"Too bad you always ran out of room to run, then," said Cloud, smiling slightly at the thought of a young Riku running around the beach after a falling star. It was… possibly the most adorable thing Cloud had ever pictured in his mind.
For a moment, they were silent and just gazed at the stars again. Riku really wished this would last forever.
"Hey, there's another one," Cloud said, pointing into the sky. Another shooting star whizzed across the cosmos. Riku's eyes followed it until it fell behind Cloud's head and he could see it no more. Riku couldn't help the smile that blossomed across his face.
"So, are you going to chase it?" asked the blond, eyes sparkling.
"Nah," Riku whispered, locking his arms around Cloud. "I already caught it."

Sassy: Could have probably been better had I not been running around the past few days with a fever. Bleh.
Hope you like it, Jedi.
