"You took my daughter's virginity!"
"Sorry, sir. It won't happen again," Jack assured, his sarcasm and laid back attitude serving to add fuel to the (scorching) fire.
The man's eyes hardened at the words and for a moment all he could do is stare at Jack in disbelief.
"Could it be?" Jack murmurs, shaking the memory off, as his face hardens even more. He turns to look at the infant, who is peacefully asleep on his bed, his gaze suddenly uncomfortable. "Could it..." He begins and then pauses, re-reading the note as if he would find something new;
Jack. I have a wasting disease. The same that claimed my father's life and is about to claim my own. I implore you, take care of Joana... She is your daughter.
Jack frowns, unsettled, and reaches for a bottle across the table. Could this be true? Or is this a joke, revenge from that ill-tempered father of hers? As the thought crossed his mind, even Jack scoffed at his own ill reasoning. Who would do that, send a grandchild away to a much loathed pirate? Nonsense. The man was too sentimental for that.
Jack's gaze falls at the child again only for Gibbs to appear in the cabin moments later.
The superstitious man gazed at Jack for a long moment, wordlessly saying that he didn't find out anything.
"What about the watch?" Jack asks, albeit rather futilely, as that was the first man Gibbs came to question.
"Very well then!" Jack exclaimed gravely. "I have a child in my cabin and no one knows where it came from!" It came out loud, too loud, and seemed to set off the bundle on his bed into a fit loud weeping. Jack grimaced and pointed to the bed.
"Take care of that," He said, grabbed his coat and fled quicker than the alarmed Gibbs could say "but".
Please leave a review and tell me what you though. I know this chapter is short but it makes it easier to write in chunks and therefore it allows updating to happen faster.
