Hermione sighed, staring at the wall of her room. She couldn't believe that she was really going to do this. She was going to erase her own parents' memories! What would happen if it all went wrong? If she accidentally erased all of their memories? If she caused them to lose their mind? If they forgot how to walk, talk and use the toilet?

She sighed. Deep breath in, deep breath out. She could do this. Her, Hermione Jean Granger, the brightest girl of her age. Of course, she could do it.

Hermione dipped the brush into the pot, before painting her nails teal. If she was going to erase herself from her parents' memories, she might as well do it in style. After all, what was the point otherwise?

That didn't sound like her. Maybe hysteria was kicking in. Maybe not.

She was going to miss them so much. Her parents. Her lovely, dentist parents. They protected her teeth from rotting. They had even offered her braces to fix them, although she had that done when Malfoy hexed her.

She was going to miss the way they never added sugar to their coffee or tea, the way they didn't believe in cakes, the way they never took her trick-or-treating at Hallowe'en. She never should've taken them for granted.

She was going to miss them so much.

But this was for their own safety. They would die otherwise, and Hermione did not want that. Why would she? She had seen how the death of parents could affect people. Her best friend, the Boy Who Lived, was living proof of the pain people went through.

Why did Voldemort ever have to be born? All he has caused was heartache and fear. He represents chaos and terror. He is the epitome of hatred.

Hermione Jean Granger, a muggle-born like no other (except maybe Harry's mother), hated Tom Marvolo Riddle, and she was going to destroy him.
