The Gift

It had been several days since John took back in that creature in order to save everyone, it was the most noble thing he'd done in a very long time. Helen just couldn't stop thinking about those 3 little words he said to her before teleporting inside to the creature, "I Love Helen, remember that." After all Helen's been through with John she wasn't sure her heart could break anymore then it already has, but she was wrong about that. When he told her he loved her and then teleported away to become Jack The Ripper once more, her heart broke even more then the first time. She felt that somehow he choose to become Jack The Ripper over her once more, like he did in the 1800's when they were in love. She knows it's foolish to feel that way, as he did it to save everyone and to stop the creature, but she cant help feel the way she does.
After he left the Sanctuary she could feel Will's eyes on her back, boring into her, she knew he wanted to ask if she was ok, and she wasn't in the mood. She excused herself before anyone could stop her and returned to the solitude of her bedroom, hoping, more like praying no one follows her. She was in no mood to be pestered about her feelings right now. She spent the next few days just walking around the Sanctuary in a sort of a daze and confusion, she know everyone was worried about her, but she really didn't care. She'd lost so much, felt so much pain, maybe 157 years is to long for one person to live, watching your only daughter give her life to save you, knowing it was all your fault was bad enough. But, now the only person she has left, has chosen insanity and murder over her, she is truly alone.
Of course she has her friends, and Bigfoot, but it just wasn't the same. She never felt the same after Ashley's death, now that she know John's madness is not his own fault, she feels like her heart will never heal. For now she knows that she can never be with him again, for that creature inside him can never be freed. The certainty of knowing they can never be together just ripped her heart out more then anything John has ever done to her before. She feels tired and cold inside, like the fire that once used to burn there was extinguished, to become cold and alone seems to be her destiny.
She heard a sound outside her office door, so she got up to go check, there was no one there, and she was seriously considering adding insanity to the list of her problems, when she looks down, and sees on the floor a small black stuffed cat toy, frowning she picks it up. Tied around the cats neck was a small note, opening it she read: "I Love You Helen, for all of eternity, never forget that! - Love John".
Smiling she walks back inside her office, shutting the door, maybe the absolute certainty of them never being together, was not so absolute after all.
