Young John wants to be a superhero...Just a quick little story for Halloween. A challenge inspired by writer friend Late2SGA
Superhero
One of John's favorite holidays was Halloween. Ever since he could remember, his mom had designed and made the most awesome costumes for Davy and him.
His favorite was the Werewolf costume his mom made for him when he was seven. She took a pair of his jeans and had cut them up and sewed fake brown fur on the inside so it looked like he had furry legs. She made a fur hood complete with furry ears. She glued the leftover fur to an old pair of glove, added fake claws and fake blood...it was awesome! All his friends loved it, even the prissy girls!
But, now his mom was sick. Too weak to actually make his costume herself, but she hadnt forgotten. For the last month, John had sat by his mother's bedside as they planned and made his costume together. She designed it and made a list of supplies which his dad helped him buy. Every night, John would go to his parent's room and while his mom supervised, he put the costume together.
John selfishly was glad that he had his Mom's full attention this year. Davy decided to do his own costume by himself. He wanted to be a zombie so his outfit was just ripped clothes with fake blood on it.
When John's costume was finally done, he raced into his room to try it on. It fit perfectly and John was so excited. The padded chestplate looked just like the real one! He ran his had over the belt buckle with the telltale symbol. The headpiece was a perfect fit, awesome in its angular contours. John flexed his padded biceps, putting his hands on his hips and admired his costume. It was missing one important piece.
Racing into his parent's room, he found his mother smiling. A mass of black material lay on her lap. She helped him attach it to his costume, then turned him around to face her.
"It's fantastic, John! Fits you like a glove!" His mother beamed.
"I know, Mom! Its awesome! Its just like the real one! John exclaimed.
"You look like a real superhero, John! You are my superhero!" His mom said proudly.
John puffed out his chest, so happy to see his mom smile. He wondered if there were really real superheroes out there looking out for people who needed help. He vowed silently to himself that he would do his best to be a real one when he grew up!
