Potentially Explosive

"Jasper, you create a distraction; the messier the better. Maggie, you need to put the Cloud Mechanism below the center of the sky light and let no one move it. I'll head to the roof with the kite." Henry instructed with a desperate look on his face. Both Maggie and Jasper looked at the other frightened before Jasper headed into the hall to steel the microphone from his dad. Henry was heading toward the stairs when Maggie grabbed his hand.

"Be careful Henry." She said looking straight into his big grey eyes. He gave her a small smile in response before it slowly left his face. Then everything turned into slow-motion as his hand reached up to her face, thumb ghosting over her lip before his fingers slipped into her hair and pulled her face toward his. Their lips connected and Maggie's eyes widened in shock briefly before responding to the kiss.

Her arms wound up around his neck, one hand lightly scraping through his hair. Henry carefully pushed her up against the side of the stairwell while slipping his tongue into the entrance of her mouth. All too soon for them both Henry broke the kiss and pulled Maggie ever closer to him for a loving hug.

"Once you have it in position. Run! I want you to be safe Maggs." He breathed into her ear.

"Well I'm not leaving here without you. So, if you want to keep me safe you should get up to that roof and disarm this bomb." She smiled lightly to him. He smiled back at her; he kissed her forehead and turned to leave. But he turned around again and pressed his lips against hers again quickly before running up the stairs to retrieve the kite. She let out a soft laugh when he tripped on a step while looking back at her one more time.

Then they got serious. Maggie put on the gloves and moved the Cloud Mechanism below the skylight. Meanwhile, Henry had reached the roof with the kite and was anchoring it to the skylight. After the kite was latched down he started tying the key to the string. Before Henry could pull away the lightning hit and sent him flying across the roof.

Both Maggie and Jasper let out a sigh of relief when they saw the newly destroyed Cloud Mechanism. Mrs. Griffin stepped through the surprised crowd and called up to the now broken skylight, "Henry Griffin get you butt down here right now!" there was no response.

"Henry?" Maggie tried, but still nothing. "Henry!" she cried. A few seconds passed before his head popped over the edge of the window frame.

"Hey guys! We did it!" He smiled down to the crowd, eyes searching out Maggie. Their eyes met and she let out a breath that she didn't even know she was holding. She heard Jasper chuckle beside her and she finally took in Henry's appearance; hair sticking out in every which direction, char marks around his collar and soot smeared on his face, and smiling the impossibly wide smile like the goofball he is.

"You are so grounded!" His mom called up to him.

"Yeah, literally!" he exclaimed, holding up his shoe and giving it a kiss. The whole room let out a unanimous chuckle.

"Get down here!" his mother ordered.

"Okay, I'll be right there." He smiled and disappeared from sight.
