Calling Ray

Summary: Deeks finally makes good on an old promise. Densi futurefic, complete.

Author's Note: I was rewatching some old episodes this week and rediscovered an old friend of Deeks and a promise he made. Hope you enjoy it!

Disclaimer: I still don't own NCIS LA. If I did, I would have hired some better writers last season.

"Morning Kensi."

"Sam, Callen," Kensi nodded to each. She dropped her bag beside her chair and took a seat. "No Deeks yet?"

"He was talking to Eric when I got here, and then it looked like he was headed to the armory. Why, you leave something at his place last night?" Kensi rolled her eyes at Callen's response. He and Sam had been making jabs at both her and Deeks ever since they finally admitted to being together outside of the office. Her thoughts turned to the answer Callen had provided to her question. She had caught up with Deeks in the gymnasium many times or practicing on the shooting range, but he didn't tend to spend much time in the armory. As she looked up, Nell jogged down the stairs from OPS. She opened her mouth to say something, but she paused when she saw the look on Kensi's face.

"All I know is that it has something to do with the US Marshalls," Nell admitted. "In the meantime, we've got an update on the case." Her fingers swiftly grazed the top of her tablet, sending photographs onto the large screen behind Deeks' desk. Kensi sat impatiently through Nell's briefing, glancing in the general direction of the armory every few minutes.

"I'll go find Deeks," Kensi volunteered as soon as Nell finished, already out of her seat. She could hear Callen making another comment behind her, but she paid no attention to it. As she passed the burn room, she paused, hearing a familiar voice behind the door.

"Glad to hear you're doing well, man," Deeks grinned. Kensi waited in silence as Deeks listened to the voice on the other end of the call. "Something tells me that we won't be having little Wikipedias anytime soon, but I'll let you know if we do." A grin spread across Kensi's face as she waited through another pause. Only one person had ever called her by that name, and she suspected that he was on the other end of Deeks' mystery call. She jumped away from the door as Deeks ended the call.

"Oh, hey," Deeks greeted as he opened the door, shocked to see Kensi standing on the other side.

"You rushed off this morning," she mentioned, careful to keep her voice gentle. "Is Ray ok?"

"You heard the comment about little Wikipedias," he accused, grinning. She nodded. "Don't worry, he's fine. I just had a promise I had to keep. And for the record, I like 'ninja assassins' better, personally."

"Me too," she admitted.
