Brrriiiiinnnnnggggg!
The piercing sound of a phone rang across Edward Elric's bedroom. With a groan, Ed covered his ears with the pillow and willed the phone to shut up. A minute passed and then another, yet the phone continued to screech. Ed sighed and reluctantly dragged himself out of bed thinking that the phone call better be worth it. He stumbled and groped around in the darkness for the phone handle.
"Hello?" Ed asked finally finding and picking up the phone handle.
"So you're awake, Fullmetal…" Roy Mustang's voice replied coolly.
"What do you want?" Ed fumed. "It's almost midnight for cryin—"
"Oh, it's not what I want Edward. It's what you want." Roy's voice seemed to taunt Ed over and over again. "The location of the Philosopher's Stone has been found, but if it's too late for you…"
"No! Wait! I can come!" Ed cut in hurriedly and slammed the phone down into the receiver before Mustang had time to reply. Ed's sleepiness had been replaced with joy and anticipation. Finally, after all this waiting, training, researching, and fighting, the one object that could restore his arm and leg and his brother's body had been found. Ed felt like crying "Hallelujah!" or even doing a little victory dance, but he instead threw open his bedroom door and raced down the hallways until he finally came face-to-face with Mustang, Al, and the rest of the military.
"Nice PJs Fullmetal," Roy smirked in greeting.
"Where is it? Where is the Philosopher's Stone?" Ed demanded impatiently only to be thrust a crumpled sheet of paper by Roy. Ed smoothed out the paper wordlessly and stared at the somehow familiar handwriting. Ed's eyes scanned the paper full of anticipation and eagerness of the upcoming news. However, Ed's eyes suddenly narrowed and he lifted his head up from the paper to glare at his onlookers; half of which were laughing uncontrollably.
"You…" Ed snarled facing Roy. He couldn't believe this. His one hope, his one dream, crushed.
"Actually, you have your brother to thank for this," Roy smirked and Al shifted slightly uncomfortably.
"Come on brother! You remember what this day was like to us as kids! We used to be pulling endless pranks on each other and laughing until we couldn't, but today you entirely forgot the date and I had to remind you." Al said to Ed while fighting back his laughter. "Although, you have got to admit that that was a good one! You've been so obsessed with the stone lately, well, I couldn't resist!"
"I'll get you back next year Al! Just you wait!" Ed laughed, releasing the paper from his hand. The paper floated in the wind and landed face-up reading: April Fools!
