Love from a soldier

Bill sighed and rubbed his eyes he had to tell his girl he was leaving.

Two days past eighteen
He was waitin' for the bus in his army greens
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to the girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gave him a smile
So he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talkin' to me I'm feelin' a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go

Bill and his girl Rosie sat on the pier

"What's the matter babe?" She asked Bill sighed

"I'm leaving today" she instantly busted into tears

"No you can't leave me!" He held her tightly as she cried in his arms

"Sam and Harry are coming too Donna and Tanya know already"

So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I've got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?

They heard the bus and she cried harder. Bill and Rosie kissed one last time then he met Sam and Harry on the bus. As the bus drove off Rosie tried to run after it but fell to her knees and cried.

she cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says a soldier's coming home

Four years past and Rosie had collected all his letters from him.

So the letters came
From an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told his heart
It might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
Said when it's gettin kinda tough over here

I think about that day sittin' down at the pier
And close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Now don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while

She cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says a soldier's coming home

Donna, Tanya and her cried themselves to sleep each night. They went to a local football game in their town Rosie, Donna and Tanya sat under the stands crying.

One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For the list of local Vietnam dead
Cryin' all alone under the stands
Was the piccolo player in the marching band
And three name's read and no one really cared
But three pretty little girls with a bows in their hair.

The three young women held the letters their men had sent and pictures of them as well. On the way to Harry's, Sam's and Bill's funeral. They turned the corner and a truck came out of nowhere. It ran them straight on causing them to go off the cliff their bodies were never found…They waited for the love of the travelin soldiers…

They cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says a soldier's coming home…..
