This is something I actually wrote before the second movie, but it is part of a story that kind of trickled off. I liked it and it could stand alone; so here it is...
Captain Jack Sparrow sat with his back to the ship's wheel. His hat sat upside down on his lap. Within it were beads, 7 beads, well 8 if you count the coin. Gold beads, wooden beads, glass beads, bone beads all gleamed as they rolled to and fro with the Pearl's soft rhythm. Between his long, gracefully strong fingers he held up a round bead to the lantern light. Naught but stars were out so the amber light of the burning oil lamp shown through the red glass and glimmered on the Captain's face. Jack grinned as he saw that the bead was as good as new. Then he snatched a spool of the strongest thinnest cord Cotton could find. He grabbed his knife and cut off just the right length. Then he picked up the coin and holding it by its wavy edges threaded the cord through the loop at the top. He tied it to the end with the ease of years of practice. Then the gold bead, red glass with white spots, light green wood, bone, dark green wood, larger red wood bead and finally to top it off, a round gold bead. He was aided in this venture by the bottle of rum at his side and the song that he sang.
"We're devils and black sheep and really bad eggs!
Drink up me hearties! Yo Ho!"
Jack closed his eyes and felt around the top of his head. A number of expressions went over his face as he tried to fasten the string. Finally one eye opened and attempted to look at the top of his head. He sighed and put the string of beads back into his hat, took a large swig of rum and got up. Making this grand accomplishment, Jack felt he deserved a celebration so he took another swig of rum. Sparrow then walked his slightly inebriated, yet elegant walk down to Annamaria's cabin and knocked on her door.
"Annamaria" he grinned as opened the door.
"What do you want, Jack?"
"I know that some where in that lovely abode of yours is a comb. If you would be so good as to fetch said article and allow your dear captain to borrow it I would be much obliged."
She stared at Jack. It was 3 in the morning.
"Look, luv, I'm getting better. I'm asking permission before I borrow it." then thought for a moment and added, "this time"
She sighed and slammed the door causing Jack to sway for a while. At last she opened it and presented him with a silver comb.
"Thank you, luv" and put his hands together in gratitude.
"That had better not be stuck in your hair by the time I get it back!"
He got back to his seat and drank some more rum. Jack put the comb up to his head and pulled it back and forth until he had an island of combed hair with dreadlocks on all sides. With a grin he weaved in the end of the strand of beads then messed with his hair and the comb until the dreadlock was filled in. It was the strand that sat on his forehead. A quick duck had made sure that only his beads came off and the rest of his head didn't. That prize's captain had been a good swordsman, Jack thought as he stretched out his arm and winced while it started to bleed again. But they had the treasure and very few had been hurt. The only one to be killed was the captain. One of the ship's crew had decided to sign on to the Pearl and the others sailed their ship back home.
Jack stood up, put on his hat, picked up the spool of cord, comb, and the knife, and finished off the rum. He staggered over to the rail, faced the bow of the boat, put his hand straight out, then after a moment, dropped the bottle into the sea. He staggered down below and put the cord away. Then he went back up, returning the comb to Annamaria, and once he was in his cabin, falling into a deep, tired, rum laden sleep.
