Once upon a time, there lived three kittens. Even as little ones, they had different characters. From largest to smallest was Mitch; known for his strength. The second largest Anna; known for her rebellious side. The smallest one was Carl; known for his bravery.
One sunny day in the backyard of their home; Pecking Farm, the kittens' mother came up to them and said 'Now angels, I'm exploring a bit and decided that if you are good by being outside during the next 2 hours, you shall receive a special reward. You will only get it if you are outside the entire 2 hours. Understand?'
'Yes mother' squeaked the kittens.
Then Mother Cat hopped up on the other side of the wall, gave a goodbye smile, sent butterfly kisses and disappeared.
'Hey, since mum is not here for the next 2 hours, why don't we cause havoc in the house?' asked a smirking Anna.
'Hey sis, now there's an idea!' said an excited Mitch.
'Guys, you know mum specifically said that we are not supposed to be inside the house until 5pm' said a nervous Carl.
'Mum won't even know that we are in there right Mitch?' said Anna.
'Oh yes' said a confident Mitch.
'I know I'm not going to like this' thought Carl.
Anna and Mitch hurried inside the house like hyperactive squirrels and began to cause all sorts of trouble like riding their bed basket down the long stairs, playing on the piano untunefully; scratching their master's hiking shoes until it tore apart and finally eating the last remaining cat treats that their master saved for if they behaved flawlessly.
Carl really wanted his siblings to come outside and have fun instead but all that he could do was stare at the mishaps his siblings were causing and try to relax under the basking sun.
At last, it was 5 o' clock and Mother Cat arrived just in time to see that all kittens remained outside and felt pleased with her kittens. She had of what appeared to be a little brown bag completely full of what mysterious thing lay inside it.
'Cuties, I'm home!' hollered a pleased Mother Cat.
That satisfaction however faded when she saw what messes that Anna and Mitch created.
'All right, who played inside while I was out?' said a calm but enraged Mother Cat.
All kittens were stricken with guilt that none of them could respond. Until a voice said 'It was me. I did it'. Both Anna and Mitch were shocked to hear that their little brother took the blame on him instead of themselves.
'Carl, I'm very disappointed in you. Therefore your punishment is...'
During the cold night, Carl watched sorrowfully as his mother and siblings were feasting on a massive salmon and milk for supper. All he could do now was gaze at the beautiful full moon. His punishment was to sleep outside the entire cold evening without any supper. He wondered if his siblings deserved all that after all they've done today.
Both Anna and Mitch felt guilty of what that they have done and could not bear to see their little brave brother sitting outside in the cold dark night.
At last they said: 'Mother, we have something to say. It was us that caused all the chaos in the house today. Carl was behaving as he always has and even told us to stay outside when we didn't want to. Please let him in and let him have the rest of our fish. We don't deserve it.'
Mother Cat was surprised at her two kittens' confession and sacrifice as well as sad to see little Carl outside when he should be joining them.
She said in a loving motherly tone; 'I fully appreciate your honesty and willingness thank you. You remind me so much of your father when we were your age. Open the small window for Carl and we'll all feast in this supper.
And they did.
The end
