A vampire hunter, is that what I've become? I really didn't want this but I had no choice; I thought Darren was my friend…and he took everything from me. Now Darren Shan will pay for what he destroyed. Our friendship. Our memories. My life.

Things have been pretty rough over the past few years, but about a month ago I found a man that says he can help me. His name is Selwyn Knox and he's a lost soul…kind of like me. Twenty years ago Selwyn's wife was found murdered. All of the blood had been drained from her body and, although no one was ever found guilty, Selwyn knew who the culprit was; Larten Crepsley. The same man that would help turn my own friend against me. So now we hunt, not with guns or knives, but with stakes and crossbows.

We've been traveling by foot these past few weeks as Mr. Knox has taught me the art of the kill, but he says we've almost reached our destination. As we breached the final hill I couldn't help but stare in awe. The largest house I had ever seen loomed before me, its towers seeming to reach into the very heavens.

We had just reached the main entrance when Mr. Knox turned to me and said, "I would like to introduce you to my…other guests." And with that, he led me inside.
